Default Post Yer Shiny Foil Crap!

Let's pay tribute to the best of the worst...I like the ol' foil:

1997 Pinnacle Summit Above and Beyond. Silver foil in hand but they scan a rainbow of colors:

1998 Pacific Die Cut. More silvery foil

1996 Pinnacle Starburst. A wealth of foil color:

1997 Topps Stadium Club Matrix

1997 Fleer Ultra Double Trouble:

1996 Pinnacle Power. Shiny foil and die cut overlays. Yay!

1997 Topps Hall Bound

Default 1% Shiny Stuff : 99% Vintage is a happy balance.

But the shiny is kinda fun, sometimes...

LOL, Dustin...the stuff is like card crack. I go to the store near my office (Burbank Sportscards) every week or two and riffle through 5000 count boxes looking for cards from sets I enjoy at $0.50 per card. Since I basically didn't collect from 97-now, I am making up for a lot of lost time.

OH I love a good dollar box search. I don’t see any 50 cent box’s by me. But everyone an again I will buy some “crap” when the price is right.

Great stuff. I wish I could post pictures here. Adam, I share your affinity for Dufex culture.

Does it diminish the value of a refractor to peel the coating? I hate having that junk on there and that keeps me from buying things like mirror gold cards.

Adam- i'm not sure if peeling them hurts the value. I do know they look much better without it.

I've always looked at the coating as an outlast. They issued them both with and without. I figured people would eventually peel because they're so ugly and the population of cards with coating would go down over time. I'm probably just looking way to much into something that really doesn't matter.

Yes it is better to have the coating. I peeled most of mine mainly football. In my last post the Mays and Mantle are not peeled because I had them in screw downs and didn’t want to open them up to peel them.

After peeling them there was a weird smell that I loved for some reason. I would buy packs just to peel them, I would even peel my friends cards lol.

The coating does not effect the grade with or with out but but there is a premium for the coating to remain unpeeled.
