Default T206 Willis Overprint w/Two Factory Designations

Posted By: RobertS

I was wondering if any of you had ever come across a T206 with two factory designations? I recently picked this Willis card up with a couple of T206 commons.

The reverse clearly was miscut initially, yet the overprint was applied in the correct place, yielding a card with two factory designations -- Factory No. 30 and Factory No 42.

The ornate design line meant to overprint the Factory No. 30 is centered, as is the Factory. No 42 text, yet the original back is shifted to the right and up.

The card is clearly factory cut, so it isn't complete printer's scrap. What do you guys make of this one?

These scans are a bit light, but they'll do for now...

Very nice card!
I have owned some T206 cards where the overprint missed covering the factory designation and both factory lines are visible.
I believe your card would do quite well on eBay if you wanted to sell it.

I'd keep it if I were the owner if for no other reason than investment. Look at how that front miscut T206 did in mastro. The fact that so many dealers still treat these little gems as crapola is absolutely mind-boggling to me given the ready market in these rarities. I picked up a badly miscut T205 at a recent show with two other cards for $40 from just such a dealer. I now have really awful miscuts in T201, 205, 206, 207 and Obak (cannot recall the ACC number on them; must be getting old). Totally O/T from baseball, but I also got a couple of really bad miscuts in 1969-70 Topps basketball, E75 boxing and 1948 Leaf boxing.

I also have a overprint that missed the factory number. By the way how much did that Miscut go for on Mastro?

The miscut Camnitz that Mastro had was perhaps the most visually striking T206 error card I have ever seen. That is beyond miscut; it's a freak, and worth a huge premium.

i.e., 50% of the top card and 50% of the bottom card showing. I have a 20:80 T205 horizontal miscut; I'll take 40% of the auction result for it
