Joe:

You are correct, I had to buy the complete team set in order to get the Herman. I have since sold the others but I believe these are very tough to find.

My pickups for the month:

The pink portrait completes my T206 Chase poses and I was thrilled to get the E90-1 Chase. I'm really being sucked in to portrait cards, hence, the Waddell which I've wanted for a while!

two wonderful and long-soughtafter additions to the colleciton this week!!!

By the way, either Mr Evers was out late partying too hard the night before he posed for this, the artist was sleepy, or perhaps this is simply proof that greenies weren't part of Evers' game prep routine?...

a little more than a year...which is quite some time to chase after what most people think is not that difficult a card....

chronic underbidding + scarcer than people think

I picked these up and really have no idea what they are or what they are worth. All I wanted was the Attel.

Neat lot thought most are cut pretty roughly.

Does this seem like it is correct.

1920 W529 Series (2) Fred Fulton, Benny Leonard, & (3) Jack Dempsey

1923 W580 Series Charlie White, Phila. Jack O'Brien, Billy Miske, Kid Lavigne, & Abe Attell.

1923 W580 Series Jack Dempsey, (2) Harry Greb, Johnny Dundee, (2) Mickey Walker, (2) Johnny Wilson, 1926 W512 Series Charley Ledoux

1920s Pancho Villa Ted Lewis and Billy Miske cards.

If anyone can give further details or value, I know Dempsey is the biggest name but also in the roughest shape.

Also what do people think of clening up a rough cut edge on a strip card?

Looking for 1915 Cracker Jacks and 1909-11 American Caramel E90-1.

Anthony love that card...very nice.

Trimmed N172, but that makes them affordable.

Joe,

Welcome the wacky world of boxing strips ................

You're right on with your W529s and black and white W580s.
What you listed as: “1923 W580 Series Jack Dempsey, (2) Harry Greb, Johnny Dundee, (2) Mickey Walker, (2) Johnny Wilson” are W551.
The Pancho Villa is a W512, like the Ledoux.

The Ted Lewis and Billy Miske cards are W519/W521s, and are relatively scarce. Like the baseball counterparts W521s are reversals of W519s. However, with the lack of bats and gloves, it's hard to determine which is standard and which is reversed. Adam W. argues in his book that boxers in Orthodox pose are W519s and “Southpawed” pose as reversed W521.

Value (?), all but the W519/521, maybe $5-10; the W519/521 maybe $10-20. Dempsey, it depends on how many Dempsey guys are bidding (I'll email you an offer, later )

I never have even thought of re-cutting a strip card, the rough edges add to the sincerity of the card, and pays respect to that “little rascal” the cut (or ripped) them back in the '20's.

................ fun stuff, Scott

just got these

And I know the following are not 'vintage' per se; but, for two dollars and fifty cents, yes $2.50; I thought these might be OK to brag about.

Although it doesn't look like too much, it is among the toughest PCL pins of the era to find, and I was happy to find one at all...Pop Dillon 1913 Los Angeles PCL "Dillon Day" pinback, he was the Manager of the team and was honored with a day in his name.

I've decided to branch out a bit.

Besides my M101-5/4 quest, I have decided to work (slowly) on an type card collection, as well. The recent "Top 10 Type Card" thread pushed me along. I think I am going to start with a T210 - always liked the looks of those.

I bought a couple things this week that expanded the scope of my collection, sort of....I'm not terribly disciplined.
I bought old Nap here, not because I was wowed by his perfectly middling win/loss pct., but rather the quality of the image on this card. - it's amazing in person. -though I do find the diamond cut very irritating.

Thanks for appreciating the Wood card as I do--it is an awesome thing to me, even if the Dorskinds of the world would pooh-pooh it for condition--
