Default W514 Joe Jacksons on eBay

Posted By: fkw

There have been 3 different W514 Jacksons on eBay in the last week or so, I believe 2 are fake.

The one on the right is authentic, the other 2 are fake IMO. Look at where I put the arrows, there is the same exact spot on the right borders, I think this spot was on the original these reprints were made from. The authentic card on the right doesnt have the spot. What do you think? Does anyone have a W514 Jackson with this spot on the right border??

I don't have a W514 Jackson to show (wish I did), but I agree with you. Finding similar stains & marks on cards is helpful in determining authenticity when you dont have the card in hand.

i don't know if you are correct or not....but i would never bid on one with that spot on the right border if i were to try and get one. good work! even without the spot i would have picked the one on the far right as legit as the "look" is consitant with the few i own. in an earlier post we stated on the legit ones you could see the black border line on the reverse,or border bleed....but not on 100% of them.

My jackson, no spot evident. I will have to look at the next fakes to appear on Ebay and see if they have the same spot.

Just being a former owner of a large screen printing company with many years of exxperience. I don't thing the spot would be a good indicator of a cards authenticity. Spots usually start appearing in the screens as they start to breakdown from long runs of printing as well as foriegn materials getting stuck in the printing area causing no ink to go down in spots. You would have to judge by the lettering and in this case the 2 cards to the left look like the type is to thin.

Just to reiterate the point, I used to own the one at the far right, it is absolutely real.

Certainly the same spots are not always a good way to determine authenticity, but it's helpful with certain cards such as the upper left stain on the back of the Ruth US Caramel, & the spots on the Ruth 149. If you see those, I would stay away.

My real Jackson - no spot, though i agree with the poster that the spot in and of itself isn't neccessarily an indicator until we see a lot more none-real with the spot.

May I add that the 2 with the spot (both orangeish) were being sold by noncollectors.

The one on the left was auctioned by a guy with 6 feedback that at this moment has a M101-5 Ruth reprint being sold as authentic (the one with the chunk out of bottom corner), and some weard Cobb premium mini card (both ending in 20 hours). This W514 Jackson SOLD for $204.50.

The one in the middle was advertised as a W600 and the seller was clueless on the card. This W514 Jackson reached $182.50 Not Meeting Reserve.

The authetic W514 Jackson (yellow) on right reached $1,175.00 Not Meeting Reserve.

I think the bidders kinda figured out what was real and fake. I was just pointing out a difference I saw comparing the scans. I'll change my mind when I see one slabbed that has the spot.
