Default Ebay question

I won an item tonight that I think is way below market.
the seller has all positive feedback, and has a sold a few items in this price range in the past month.

I have not bought an item this expensive on Ebay. is there any specific way I need to pay to make sure I am protected? how fool proof is the Ebay buyer protection?

It's come through for me. About a month ago I got what I thought was a good deal on a raw Aaron RC. When I got the card in hand, it was clearly trimmed.

Seller wouldn't take it back and gave me a bunch of BS about how it could be a "size variation," and anyway he only described it as authentic (i.e., not unaltered). Great business practices, eh?

Anyway, after waiting the required period, I had to ask eBay to step in. It took them about two hours to decide the case in my favor (I attached clear photos showing the size discrepancy). I sent the card back, and they just told me I got my refund today. Hasn't hit my credit card yet, but I expect it will soon.

I thought I had bought the card directly with my credit card, but I got an email from PayPal earlier today about the refund, so apparently they were involved somewhere. From what I hear they offer an extra layer of protection.

Ebay is pretty good for buyer protection. Just to be safe I would pay through PayPal via credit card to get the PayPal and credit card company protections as well.

Ebay owns PayPal.

Ebay owns PayPal.
Ebay used to own it. Paypal is now its own publicly traded company as of 2015.

I have my eBay account set to pay with a credit card by default for the bonus points (I've bought a...considerable number of cards in the last 6 months).

But it's strange and irritating: About half the time, I confirm payment and the purchase goes through no problem. And then the other half of the time, it says I need to re-enter the security code for my credit card. I do, but then it always says the transaction didn't go through, so I have to change the payment method to PayPal, login to PP, and it takes the money out of my checking account (despite the fact that I have the same credit card set as my default PP payment method for online purchases).

I've contacted a few sellers asking if they have their accounts set not to take credit card payments, but they've said that's not the case. Just seems to be a totally random glitch. It's very frustrating.

Ebay buyer protection is excellent, Paypal buyer protection is excellent as well. You can file claims on both if one happens to deny a claim.

2 things to keep in mind:

If the card is $750 and up, the seller is required to use Signature Confirmation.

Sellers are required to accept returns for items not as described, regardless of what the sellers return policy is.
