Default Anyone recognize these issues?

Both have "International News Photo" markings. They're blank-backed and on thicker type paper. Both slightly smaller than 8x10.

Other players I have from this issue include: Less Fleming, Bob feller, Rip Sewell, Hank Greenberg, Eddie Stanky, Phil Cavaretta, Whitey Kurowski, Dixie Walker, Ted Lyons (in both versions), Marty Marion, and Walker Cooper.

I thought the Nationality identification on the slightly larger card was kind of interesting.

I don't know, but the International News Photo (famous photo and news service) would be
the supplier of the player image, and probably not the issuer of the card or whatever
it is. Of note, International News Photos changed their name in the 1950s, so, unless
they are reprints, the items would have to be 1950s or earlier.

They are w603 sport exchange premiums 1946-1949. Cool items. I collect the w602's which are related to your issue.

Jamie -

Can you post a scan of the Greenberg. I've never seen one.

Thanks.
Alan

Jamie, the set was issued in the late 1940's by the Sports Exchange Trading Post hobby magazine. They were issued in 12 series. Your Cooper is from Series 1 and your Lyons (trimmed down to the frame line) is from Series 5. They are designated as set W603 in the American Card Catalog.

A gallery for the complete set can be found on the Old Cardboard website at http://www.oldcardboard.com/w/w603/w603.asp?cardsetID=844.
