Default A cheap Ty Cobb card

Posted By: Keith

Hello all,

I recently started collecting sports cards again, and have focused solely on prewar cards. About 2 years ago I sold my entire collection with a local auction house, only to get the bug again about 4 months ago. My original collection only had 3 prewar cards, a t206 collins, a t205 sam leever, and a t201 Doyle Meyers. I did pretty well with sale of the collection.
Interestingly enough what brought me back to the hobby was me buying another t201 Doyle Meyers card. In fact I think it was the identical one I sold. It was at the same auction house about a 1 1/2 later, and was in what I think was an identical plastic case.
Anyway I have since have purchased several t206, t205, and t201 cards.

During my collecting heydays, I always wanted to get a cobb but never had the opportunity. My question is how cheap could a very low grade Cobb T206 or T205 be gotten. I mean like a poor one, or even possibly a trimmed one.

You can probably get a beater cheaper than a trimmed one, but none are really cheap. It really depends on how much money your willing to spend. I dont collect T205s, so I have no idea what a Cobb goes for in low grade. Depending on how the card looks, even the beaters cost 300-400. In fact a really nice T206 Sgc 20 went for almost 700.00 tonight. Not to beat a dead horse, but buy the card not the holder.

Check out Cobb in the T202's as well, a low grade usu. equals a low price, often with a great image of the Peach.

There is an e98 gai 1 on ebay right now with a bin of 475. Doesnt look too bad for the grade.

...within the past month. The red background T206 is the most common of the four.

...and no, I was not able to remove the paper scrap. The paper was glued to a portion of the card that had already been damaged in an earlier scrapbook removal. A nice little surprise as I was gently peeling the paper off...

You may want to consider some other issues besides T206 if price is a big focus

In the past couple of months I have seen 2 poor graded T202 Cobbs sell at just over $200 and have seen 2 ungraded beater T201 Cobb/Crawford sell in the low $100 range.

If you want a really cheap Ty Cobb, consider buying something like W516 Cobb, as it will only run you like $50, and you can say that you own a vintage Ty Cobb card in the process.
