Default OT: Lefty Grove Statue Dedication Yesterday...

Several years ago, a committee was formed to purchase and place a statue of Lefty Grove in his (and my) hometown of Lonaconing, MD. Yesterday, the statue of Lefty was dedicated inside of Lefty Grove Park in downtown Lonaconing. The statue was made by Susan Luery, the same woman that made the statue of Babe Ruth at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. (You can google her if you want to find more information about her and other statues that she has done.)

I have posted some pictures below of the statue and the park. They place a home plate where you can stand to see what it might have looked like with Lefty pitching against you. There are several plaques that provide information about Lefty's career.

Down the street in the library is the 1931 A.L MVP Trophy that Lefty was given. I have posted some pictures of that trophy as well. There are also some pictures of the "mini" statue that Susan Luery made before making the real statue.

Thanks for the great pictures. A very deserving honor for a great pitcher.

You're looking very well, Brad. Lot of water under the bridge since we met in Honolulu. Great that Lonaconing has this tribute to your cousin. Do you ever display your Lefty Grove stuff at the library? I bet the townsfolk would love it, especially the kids.
