Default Goodwin Auction T216 Honus Wagner - consistent grading???

Posted By: Art M.

Just noticed a T216 Peoples Tobacco Honus Wagner card in the current Goodwin Auction. The card is graded a PSA 2 -

http://www.goodwinandco.com/auction/baseball/t216/93/

This SAME card sold in the recent Robert Edward Auction but was in a PSA 1 holder??

This is happening all too frequently these days. It is just more obvious on unique cards.

Definitely the same card. Someone played grading roulette with PSA and won big. The "lucky" buyer of the card in the current auction is in for an interesting surprise if he comes here.

If ever there was a case to be made for buying the card and not the holder, this is plaintiff's exhibit 1.

Looks like a 2 to me. If you guys had a card you thought was undergraded, wouldn't you resubmit it? Jim.

Agreed. Looks fine in a PSA 2 holder.

So "buy the card and not the holder" is still good advice here.

do you think they cracked it out and resubmitted it without saying anything?

or asked for a re-grade (submitting it in the slab)?

what would be the better route to take if you thought your card was undergraded?

crack out and re-submit, PSA does not like to admit to mistakes so don't bother with the grade review process. Just my opinion on it.

stated it was 'harshly' graded and it sold for $2K before the juice. So....someone is banking on getting $2400+ for it to break even--more or less. Not a huge windfall out there and have seen stuff like that backfire on people.
