Jim,

I don't think the new software (vbulletin) will be much more complicated for posters like your or myself. The think the true complexity is behind the scenes. I think the users will enjoy more bells and whistles but you don't have to use them. If you can post on Net54, you can surely post on the new boards.. BTW, NET54 is far more complicated for regular posters than most any other bulletin board software available today.

The hardest part will be registering on the new boards (if Leon can't transfer his base over) and bookmarking the new site! happy.gif

I think the new site will offer more options but for those who are computer challenged the basics will not change.

The basics will definitely not change, as it will be just as easy to post, but anyone posting will have to re-register one time.... Overall the new platform is light years ahead of this one. I think it might be ready in a week or less at this point. Once we got going on the install, the back end looks detailed but not too difficult, and Brian is whipping along at breakneck speed. regards

Marty,

Sounds good although I don't know what bookmarking means.

Matt,

Glad to see I'm not the only one in the dark.

Dan,

I don't check every day but when I do I am trained to hit letstalksportscards.com then I click twice on hobby info and then I click twice on network54-baseball. Then this board appears--like magic!

Jim

I've seen many football teams fire a .500 coaches only discover he was better than anyone else they could get. I'd call this board a .500 board. It has its occasional issues and error messages, but generally works. If the next board is a Tom Landry, of even a Don Coryell, then go for it. Just realize the celebrated new coach sometime turns out to be a Don Morton (former 1980s Wisconsin Badgers coach who now work for a computer company in Fargo-- say no more). After just a few years of their new hire, the Badgers longed for the days of .500 ball. Though, to end to the story on a significantly positive note, the Badgers' replacement for Morton was a Notre Dame assistant coach named Barry Alvarez. Twenty years after that hire, Alvarez is universally ranked as the greatest coach in school history and there's a bronze statue of him in front of the stadium.

Leon,

....obviously--thats my sense of humor--I was going to put a smile by my comment but figured people would know--even I know what a website is.

I assume you KNOW what bookmarking is too? It's sort of hard to tell sometimes what folks are being cutesy about and what they really don't know.

Leon,

No--I don't know what a bookmark is except what you put in a book to mark what pg you are on--its one of those "techy" words people like to throw around to show they are tech savvy.

Jim C,

I know you use AOL. In the upper right corner of this page is a red heart icon. If you click on that, a screen comes up that asks if you want to add this site to your favorites. If you do so, it is stored in the "Favorites" listing on the upper right side of the AOL main page.

That's "bookmarking." It's the electronic version of folding over the corner of a catalog page that you want to go back to later.

And "shirt" and "pants" are words people like to throw around to show they are fashion savvy.

if you are used to accessing this board through a link on letstalksportscards, then I am confident my good friends over there will update the link to send you to the new site. Still, it wouldn't hurt to learn a couple new tricks. Bookmarking is easy and a huge timesaver.

Thanks Jim--I do use AOL for those of you web guys. Never noticed a heart but I will check it out this weekend.

Matt--no, more like a Nehru jacket. QA bookmark vs a shirt is more like the backup shortstop for the Indians in 1966 vs the right fielder for the Yankees in 1927....except for an ultra techie.

We are in the process of porting over all of the old threads to the new board. Hopefully it will be done today. The new board is done except for that. It will certainly take Brian, Dan and myself some time to get used to the new back end of it but it will be well worth it. You guys are going to love it.

Jim Crandall- if you need personal help in navigating and using the new site I will help you through it. There is nothing to fear except fear itself.

When can we expect to move to the new site? A couple of days? Months?

I think we will get over there this weekend, one way or the other.....here is a quick peek....but registration is closed right now...Remember that there is still some work to do...but it's mainly porting over the old info...

www.net54baseball.com

I have checked with 2 different lawyers on the name and I think we should be fine....We are in a different "business" than Network54.com....which is a trademarked name....

I am going to lock this thread as I started a new one on the same topic....
