Default Cobb W512: two versions, your view

As you may know, there's a W512 #3 for Cobb and the same with "Ex-Mgr" under his name (he was still playing, of course). Why did they do this? Any sense which is more common and which more pricy? The pop reports may be inaccurate, judging by some sales I've seen, but they show fewer of the "Ex-Mgr" graded. Thanks.

I would say that the "Ex-Mgr" version is much more common based on my own experience. I would also love to know the reason for the two different versions.

For what it's worth, PSA pop report shows slightly fewer Ex-Mgrs and SGC shows far fewer Ex-Mgrs.
