Default 1800s team cdv date?

I know this has condition issues but so would you if you were this old!! Which leads to the question, what is the date (approx.)? It was only a hundred bucks so how can you go wrong with this early baseball image, even with all of it's warts? The seller thought the A was for Athletics however I am not sure how they knew it.
I might have asked about this once before but I don't remember the answer if I did. It is approx. 4 1/2" x 2 3/4" trimmed down. Thanks for any and all help...

I see a catchers mask, but no gloves. I would date between 1880-1890, call it 1885.

Thanks so much, guys. On my personal site I am going with circa 1885. I like early images and this one just struck me as cool. Collect what you like is what I always say.

Leon, very nice pickup. Since the Photographer is from Sandwich MA, I'd say that this is one of the first baseball teams of the Cape Cod Baseball League that did form in 1885. The Sandwich Althletics. Here is some info:

Being on the Cape, I get to see great baseball being played here every summer.

Could Leon's pic be the same Sandwhich Athletics team pictured in that article??...humm. When I was last in Cape Cod I visted the Cape Cod Baseball Museum. They have an actual 'Sandwhich' uniform on display, same as the dark one shown in one of the pics in that article. Being a uni guy I found it to be exceptionally cool. I took a few pics of it - I'll see if I can find that pic and post it.
