Default 1951 Bowman

Here are a few of the '51's I sent in to SGC. As w/ the '51 Magic cards in the other thread, these also are original purchase from my boyhood. I was thinking about having the whole set graded, as they are almost all as nice as these, BUT---there is one problem w/ quite a few--the dreaded "factory print lines" across the center!

Cards that today would NOT be included in packs, Bowman was not so careful about and into the packs they went, print lines & all!

Included is an always tough last card in the set #144 Bill Dudley, along w/ some other HOFer's.

I have several of the bigger Stars in a box I haven't opened yet! I'm hopeful they pulled some equally nice grades when I get to them!

As far as I'm concerned, the 1950-52 Bowmans are by far the nicest football cards ever produced. As yes, they seem to be full of print lines, particularly, it seems, the 1951s. I'm always amazed when I see old cards in great shape. How did you keep them in such good condition?

Hi Chris--

It just so happens that the yrs you mention are the yrs I have from my youth--from my '50 Bowman set bought when I was 10 yrs old to the '51 Bowman & Topps Magic set and the '52 Large--all complete from back in the day!

I had them all carefully stored away for many yrs and I think the REAL truth is that baseball was my passion & I didn't like football very much at all back then! Consequently, my FB cards weren't played w/ very much--just bought packs and put the cards in order & once the set was complete into a cigar box they went!

Great cards. That Hirsch has always been one of my favorite cards from that set.

Very nice cards and really neat they are from your youth. I love the 51 Bowman FB set and just in fact completed my set with this copy of the Landry card.

Michael--

CONGRATS on completing the set--and w/ a very important & VERY NICE RC at that!

I sent in my Landry also--it's in the Star box I haven't opened yet, so I have no idea if it graded as nicely as yours or not! I hope to get to them soon!

PS---Why is your card not labeled as the RC?

Thanks Fred. Now on to upgrading a few cards in the set. I guess I saved one of the more expensive for last. I think to get a RC designation from PSA you have to request it when submitting and I was not the original submitter of this card. SGC is a little more liberal on putting Rookie designations on the flips.

Let us know what grade some of those stars receive, especially the Landry.
