Default Suspect sale last night on Ebay.

This card was sold last night on ebay. Ebay number 263419508363. T 206 Walter Johnson Portrait SGC 40. Card looks repaired on right side, has paper missing on front margin and looks like a repair around pocket. Repair shows on reverse. This is a SGC 40? or am I seeing things.

Tony, I'm not finding the suspected card you're speaking of.

The Ebay auction # shown does not register?

I tried searching for that item number on eBay, and didn't find anything. It would really help if you gave a link.

Oh, OK, I had to search among completed listings. Here is the link:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/T206-Walter...p2047675.l2557

It does look rough for a 3, and the flip is old. Looks like a piece of the right border came off after it was slabbed.

Card does seem over graded, but I don't see any of the alteration which you speak of.

Beneath the paper loss there is a crease from right edge across his pocket in, what seems to me, in a circular fashion. I am just surprised that SGC let this one get away. Should be a 20. Maybe I am seeing things.

To me it looks like the "paper loss" on the right border is a chip that
came off and turned after it was in the holder.

I agree that it's over-graded, but it's also not the worst looking 3 I've ever seen.

Should be a 1.5 or 2 at best.

Not the calamity I was expecting from the title. Overgraded IMO, but not suspect.

Every now and again you see a card graded in such a liberal way that you think,"If I could get that grader on that day, I'd send them every card I own."

Sometimes I think that too, then the over graded card sells and I forget about wanting that grader again. Because it sold low as it wasn't nice for the grade. I think that sentiment (buy the card not the holder) is more present today than in the hobby previously. It's a really nice card besides the chip.

The Johnson looks like a solid VG to me. Maybe I'm just not as strict as a lot of the other folks on here. But, it seems to fit the guidelines for an SGC 40 or PSA 3. Not the nicest 40 our there, but not close to the worst either. That 3.5 is more surprising.
