Default 9 Key Vintage Cards by Position

Posted By: peter chao

Here it is guys, this is going to be a toughie. We are talking about only nine cards, and we are going to do it by position. For each position we are going to have only two cards a first-stringer and a back-up. So let's share our list of key prewar vintage cards. Oh yah, when I'm talking about the position of the ballplayer, I'm talking about the position the player had at the time the card was issued. So it's possible that the Baltimore News Babe Ruth would be one of the cards of pitchers.

So I'm talking about only 18 cards, so which cards are superstar cards?

In addition to T206 Wagner (SS), these would appear on most lists of key prewar cards:

T206 Eddie Plank (P)
T206 Ty Cobb (OF)
1915 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson (OF)
1933 Goudey Babe Ruth (OF)
1933 Goudey Napoleon Lajoie (2B)
1934 Goudey Lou Gehrig (1B)

That leaves Catcher and 3B for a first team.

How would you like to have Jimmy Foxx as your second string catcher? '34 Diamond Stars Jimmy Foxx in a catcher's pose. Also, he would be great as a pinch-hitter in clutch situations.
