Default Does PSA/GAI/SGC Grade Cards That Have Been Miscut?

Posted By: Donald Johnson

I was going to submit a couple of cards for grading and was wondering if the various grading companies would grade a card that had one side "miscut"? See top edge.

thanks!

When PSA grades a miscut card, they assign a grade and add a qualifier, ex. PSA 4 MC. They don't add a qualifier when they grade trimmed or altered cards though...

Does this look trimmed to you? I've taken a pretty close look and don't see the usual chipping indicators.

I don't believe the card is trimmed or altered, only miscut.

I have only submit to SGC and they have graded most of my angle cuts, but not all. A card like the Brown might send a red flag because only the top is angle cut, but maybe the card was at the bottom of the sheet.

I am still curious aboout these angle cuts, obviously the sheet got shifted when cutting but you never see any angle cuts that are into the picture of the card. With all the scrap cards that are out there does anyone have any angle cuts that cut in to the picture?

Just Curious

Lee

Lee,

The ONLY way for these angle cuts to be legit, and not all are, is that the complete sheets were cut vertically and then the resulting strip of vertically placed cards were then cut across what becomes the top/bottom of each intended card.

The sheets couldn't have been cut any other way because a cut that created the angle cut like we see one the one card would ruin a good number of cards on the sheet because as you mentioned the angle would result in cutting into the names and eventually the images of other cards on the sheet.

As long as the angle at the top and the bottom are the same, it is usually NOT trimmed. Trimmers like straight cuts.
