Default Sporting Life Composite New York AL 1906

Long time lurker, first time poster ... I hope this is "on topic" enough to make the grade ...

I picked up the following item on ebay about a month ago. On the back is a stamp noting “Reproduced by Burke & Brace Photo”. The seller thought that it was a photo of a photo (i.e. Burke took a photo of the Sporting Life Team Composite Postcard or W601), and he thought it was from the 1930’s. Anyone have any experience with these? If it’s a recent repro I’m not too disappointed because it wasn’t expensive and I really like it. Size is approximately 4” x 4.5” and it is on relatively thick cardstock. The way the border is created leads me to believe it is not a trimmed postcard.

go to my website and you will find the original from which yours was copied. The postcard itself would run you about $500.00 plus. The repros obviously much less.

I sold this item. There is no doubt this item is from the 1930's and not a modern reproduction. Burke and Brace started making photographs around 1922 or so if I remember correctly and they took original photos of ballplayers who were current at the time, and then took Photographs of the photos they did not have in their archeives or whome they could not get an original of themselves. This is why you will find a Burke and Brace photo from the 1920's or 1930's of a player like Ty Cobb with the words "Reproduced" on the back. The photo is not original to them so they can not take full credit for it, but the actual photo itself is an original Burke and Brace from the pre-war era.
