Default Babe ruth Japanese post card

Hey Guys,

RE: 1929 Shonen Club Post card, Babe Ruth

I recently got this card, i have done alot of internet reasearch, though not too much to find. My card Has a BLACK Border on the front and the back of card matahes all the graded ones I have seen. BUT - All of the Graded cards i have seen do not have a black border. And, I have found reprints that on the back say "reprint"

Any thoughts?

If that scan is in focus, you're in trouble

Doesn't look like others examples I've seen online. In particular, and as you noted, the black border is 'unique'-- and strange.

I've never seen one in person and your scan is blurry, but I don't hold out high hopes for it's authenticity.

I agree...looks fake to me...I used to have one of these and it was much crisper...and the black borders(which I have never seen) don't instill any confidence either.

yea, i only payed a few bucks for it on ebay. The seller had an over 1000 feedback, but the scan is slichtly out of focus. The front is pretty beat up, looks old.

I just havent seen any with the black burder with out the "reprint" labled on the back.

Are you sure the reprint label on the back isn't obscured somehow..a blurry scan and intentional paper loss perhaps?

The kanji on the side of the card just looks like blue blotches. On authentic cards, you should be able to make out the individual characters. Not looking good as others have said.

I've owned one of those and do not believe anything about the one pictured is authentic. In fact, it's a poor reproduction at best IMO.

Evilking- I hope your user id isn't any prediction of the direction you go in the hobby, vis a vis all of the reprints you seem to be obtaining? For your reference here is a good postcard. Notice the crispness. This kind of crisp printing pertains to a lot of good cards vs fakes in all areas of the hobby. Also note the nice looking, clean borders.

lol na not at all, just an email address i made when i was a kid and the name stuck. Picking up cards like this for a few bucks and hoping they may be real is just a small risk. I mostly look to buy graded cards esp from this time period. i only buy from ebay sellers who have excelent feedback, but i guess that dosnt mean much, maybe i should stick to only graded cards.

Interesting that just after I update my sig to reflect this card (or the Churchaman's) as my #1 want right now, this is the first thread I read. Thanks for posting as I am worried about getting a raw fake and as much info as I can get, the better. I'm probably going to end up with something low quality, but graded for safety. My collection is sorely needing a Ruth, even if I can only afford low end.
