Default PSA vs. SGC

I'm not saying PSA or SGC is more or less culpable than the other in all the recent fraud revelations, as I have no clue, but PSA has certainly seemed to bear more of the brunt of public anger as to what has been going down. Does anyone think ultimately this will lead to SGC being able to close the market gap on valuation of its graded cards vs PSA?

IMHO SGC has done everything in their power NOT to capitalize on this.

On low grade pre war cards that gap has been closing for a while now. Also on rarer issues SGC pops show that they are used as much if not more often to slab these issues.

Yeah, but for higher end vintage, an SGC 88 ain't pulling in close to what a PSA 8 does at auction, except in some very rare cases.

Default PSA vs. SGC

Nobody would be happier than me to see PSA take a topple off their mountain at some point, but I’ve always kind of had the feeling like it’s the corporate culture vs. the college kids and the potheads. SGC is great at what they do, I love their product. At least in terms of consistency of grading, they have held that line for several decades now where IMO PSA has not. I would have to be worked / convinced in new way to believe that most SGC 88’s are in some substantial way worse than most PSA 8’s, but I would agree that is the perception and how the pricing currently works. With mid- and lower grade vintage, I will agree that PSA is tougher, but they are also weirder / more random. Some cards can be beat to hell and get a PSA 2. Other cards can look like a 7 but have a microscopic wrinkle - and get a PSA 2. Everyone makes mistakes, but on the whole I feel that SGC doesn’t make this one as often as PSA does.

Honestly, if the last year or so of the PWCC mess is not going to burst the PSA bubble, then I’m not sure anything ever will. Many people have cited the registry, and it’s true that SGC’s attempts at this have always been pretty lame. Collect what you like, I guess. I like SGC slabs and their customer service and always have. If I ever find myself in a position needing to flip really high-end raw vintage cards where I needed to make substantial profit - then yes, I suppose based on the way things are today - I would consider PSA.

Default Sgc! Sgc! Sgc!

I exclusively used SGC for my (rapidly dwindling) T206 collection and was always well pleased with the service and results.

I love their holders, but no way in hell could I say either of these companies provides adequate customer service.

Month(s) backlog. Pay for service that isn't delivered. Nope. Won't do again. Maybe at the National I will pony up for same day service on a few cards.

I don’t submit to either, but find myself buying lots more Raw and SGC graded cards than PSA. And I am far more prone to crack out the PSA cards once I have them in-hand. Their slabs are just plain ugly, and PSA’s grading carries no consistency, whatsoever. It takes about 15 seconds to crack them out, and I consider that time well spent!

Check your numbers. That's way low.

Look at the bright side. We could be talking about buyers premiums, shill bidding, or high shipping rates.

If you read real carefully, you might see that this is a little different than the usual "which is better PSA or SGC" post, but it's kind of hidden.

I ONLY use SGC. Just got a submission back. No problems and I trust them. PSA has made their own bed and will have to live in it.

When are both of these companies going to star scanning each and every card submitted? Not just high end, all cards?

I have a feeling this is the route we are headed would this be a happy medium what’s day you?
