Default If You Could Take One Card From Someone Here...

Let's all face it: healthy envy is part of collecting. It's a nice compliment to pay another collector. As I see the great cards posted here on a regular basis, it made me think of a fun what if...

Assume you could take any ONE card from any one collector here. Which would it be and why? I'm going to do some super fun virtual shopping here for the next few hours and really think this through before making my pick...

At first, I'd say one of MattyC's cards, either the Mick52 or his Ruth RC.
but i know theres guys on here with very rare cards that people would love and never get a hand on, unless adopted.
I know of a post war guy with a Mick dice game card thats rare for post-war
As for pre-war. Almost anything RC wise of any HoF'er.

This is a sort of easy one - as Jay Miller is Mr. OJ and my collection pales in comparison to his I would love to grab one of the toughies he has to fill a hole in my collection. The hard part is picking just one.

I wouldn't be overly greedy by trying to glom a California League card, for instance, but a Jake Wells or a Peek-A-Boo Veach would do nicely. Alternatively, I would take a Tug Wilson to replace the one I had to sell to fund some of the repairs to my house.

I think I have to go with this Wagner from Leon's collection. I don't mind mentioning it now since I have no chance of affording it when it hits the auction block in July. It would be a decent candidate even without the tab.

Hysterical-- after spending all this time browsing as many pics as I can, I have also decided on MattyC's Ruth Rookie, followed closely by his Mantle, as I am a centering guy.

To me, his "1.5" Ruth is the prime hobby example of how the grade is so far from the whole story. I mean 5's that don't look nearly as good as his Ruth cost 90k and I think he paid in the 50's for it. Plus I have never seen one centered better in any grade.

I would take PCoz's Frederick Foto Ruth followed by Joe T's 1914 Mathewson CJ!

Paw and Mets, thank you both very much for the kind words on these two:

Default Tough choice

Between Josh Jones' Cy Young side view, Jeremy J's Hindu-backed Bernhard (what is with all the J initials?) and another member's Hindu-back Killian, I'd probably take Josh's Cy Young. Not the rare back, but with it, I would have all three poses of Cy Young with Howe's stamp on the back.

I'm a bit surprised no one has mentioned one of the t206 Wagners or Planks owned by board members. Personally, even though I don't know the particular member who owns it, I would go for the Just So Cy Young. Coming back into the realm of semi-reality, I would go with Leon's Pinkerton Cobb.

Of course I thought about those, but they are the obvious choices. I wanted to go more obscure. However, I had forgot about the Just So, which is truly a remarkable card. I would still have a hard time not choosing an E224 Joe Jackson.

So many that it's hard to choose. But two that come to mind are Leon's Kotton Cobb and CW's CJ Cobb.

Edited to add Chuck's E102 Cobb as well.

Ha! cool thread...

Thanks, Dean!

I'd grab either David M's 1914 CJ Mathewson or Jeff L's H.C. Hubel Cobb PC, both posted here vicariously...

(honorable mention to Matt's '52 Mantle)

Has to be Leon's proof. Top HOF, Type-1 no name design change, fat handcut borders, blank backed proof. Doesn't get any better than that for me.

Chuck: Only card I've ever submitted for a re-grade. I've seen 2's that were roadkill and thought this beauty deserved better. SGC gave it a wee bump.

My favorite card of anyone's on this board -- and I agree, very undergraded.

Here's my other two mentioned above:

Not a card but RobSteinmetz has Dave Kingman's "Babe Ruth Crown", given to him in 1980 in honor of his amazing offensive season in 1979 with the Cubs. Absolutely awesome!

Short of cards worth as much as a house, I would take one of Leon's cards that i will share after I don't win it. In second place would be the T213-1 Matty dark cap - I would happily take either Ted Z's or Dean H.'s (hi fellas, still love your cards).

Default For me this is easy.

I don't even own a Cobb. He's my favorite player of all time and although I like the Green portrait better the Red is my second fav. Throw in the rare back and It would be the second to none for me unless it was a Green the only way it could be better.

I'm now accepting donations Rob Blake
