Default Vent about dumb Ebayer

Posted By: Frank

My apologies if this does not add anything of substance to the board, but I feel the need to vent...
A few weeks ago, amidst the huge dump of BIN items listed on Ebay, I spotted a Best Offer item from a high volume Ebayer of a certain graded T206 HOF portrait subject that I have had recent interest in. This particular item was not from one of the large dealers' dumps, and was therefore somewhat reasonably priced, albeit slightly high for the grade. It included a "normal" sized scan of the front and no scan or description of the back. The front looked slightly better than the grade would indicate, which gave me some concern regarding the back. However, with a reasonable back this card struck precisely the balance between grade, eye appeal, and price that I had been pursuing in this card. So I sent a question to the seller asking for a scan of the back (and front in higher res if possible). I indicated strong interest in the card. I had recently purchased another Ebay card of fairly significant value from this person which went fine, so he/she had to know I was a serious potential buyer. In fact, although I didn't say so, I was prepared to pay full price for the card if necessary. A couple days passed with no response. Oh well, maybe they are busy with the holidays... I'll give it another couple days and send a follow-up e-mail. The next time I checked on the card, it was sold, at 80% of the asking price. I don't know, maybe I'm just anal, but if I'm going to drop a grand or more on a card, I generally want to see what it looks like. Anyway seller, either you just left some money on the table, or someone is going to be pretty upset with the back of their new purchase...
ahhhh, I feel better now

How bad was the picture of the front of the card?

I do agree that sellers should provide both front and back scans. I mean, ebay charges 15 cents for the additional picture, it doesn't seem like asking too much from a seller.
