I like the “ring of black” pins below the big Mays….but they’re more modern than you like.

Couple of new pick ups from an online auction; a vintage Cubs pinback (my second one of that same style and size), a 1950 American Nut & Chocolate Phillies pinback and a 1960’s? Yankee fan pinback.

I love the black ring pins. I'm looking for Ed Bailey, Hal Lanier and Len Gabrielson. If anyone knows of any available let me know.

It’s a fairly new display piece. You can find them for sale in a lot of coin shops and the like. People use them for pins, buttons, collectible, coins, and other small trinkets. They’re a little clear plastic capsules with a foam insert.

Bailey and Gabrielson are very tough. I don't think Lanier turns up often, either.

Found my second 1972 Creative House pinback in the wild. It was in a small online auction.

Didn't want to "out" it prematurely, but now that it's over...

Any comments/observations on lots #37 - 42?

Hi Mark,
Huge prices for pinbacks, IMHO, but I know they are rare.

I don’t know what the exact measurements are, but here’s a Quarter in one of them and there’s still white space around the rim.

I did cut the white foam inserts in half to lower the pinback in the container so that the face of it would not scratch against top of the plastic.

Yes it’s a Pirates pinback the Green Weenie Whammy was a thing announcer Bob Prince created to place a hex/curse on opposing players. It was a pickle shaped rattle. This pin is related to that. This one is currently on eBay.

If the Green Weenie were hung upside down, it might be accused of being a tragic green "bent carrot" like the commercial on TV

I wonder what it would have sold for if Mick didn't have a cold sore on his lip the day his picture was taken?

Default Whitehead and Hoag B Pin

Hi-

Does anyone know if this is a baseball pin? It is made by Whitehead and Hoag and the letter B is inside of a diamond. It looks like baseball but I did not find it in either of the pin books I have. It was found in Massachusetts if that helps.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Alan

I know that I quite often say that I find things in “obscure online auctions” but it really is the truth. This one is no exception. I was surprised to find this one where I did. It’s in great condition, and a HOF’er to boot!

For the first time in forever, this is actually not an online auction find. It was an online purchase though. Couldn’t miss the opportunity to pick up a vintage NY Giants football pinback.

I need to thank a fellow Net54 member for blowing up my credit card by putting this on eBay . I think I have all of the 50's-60's PM10 Cubs pins now other than Ransom Jackson, unless there is a Roy Smalley. I have Banks, Cavarretta, Kiner, Santo, and Sauer.

There is a Roy Smalley. Only one I ever saw was in Muchinsky’s book. Never saw it come up for sale with his other pins. Both the Jackson and Smalley are among the most scarce PM-10s.

Thanks for confirming that, I thought that I had heard of the Roy Smalley pin somewhere before but wasn’t sure.

Great pin! Andy lets some good ones go, from time to time. Pierce, Andy?

Default Pins

Hi Rob,

Well, with this Kiner and the Gomez that sold yesterday, I'm officially out of PM10's (except for my Giants). Someday though! Glad it made it to you safely Cliff!

An interesting 6” pin just ended on ebay. It went for good money. Question: when do you guys think was the earliest these cardboard “easel backs” were used?

Hi Rob, I saw that pin the one you are talking about,if it was this one I believe the person got screwed. I believe that someone took an easel back out of another cheaper pin (easy to do) from a later era and put it in that pin. That easel back you show isnot the correct on for that pin. Also that pin is a much later pin made I believe in the late 70s or 80s. I own this pin and here is the correct easel back that came with it... As to your question the earliest I have seen this easel back you show is around 1960... It is also the same easel back that is on the large mantle maris ruth shooting for 61 in 61 pin.. so that would at least show it was around 1961.....
