Pre-War Card Games

Guys and Gals,

Let's face it we all played farsies or knockdown. You remember, 3 or 4 of the guys would throw their '62 Mantles at a brick wall and the guy who tossed their card closest the wall would win all the other cards that were tossed.

And how about knock-down. You would put lean a card against the wall, then all the guys would throw cards at the card that was leaning against the wall. And the guy that knocked down the card that was leaning against the wall would win all the other cards.

Now here's the question, what game have you played or would like to play with the pre-war cards.

My favorite game is showing off a vintage card or two in front of a group of friends /relatives/co-workers and see how long it takes before someone asks how much I paid for it, and what I could get if I sold my entire collection.

Once they held out almost 3 minutes. Of course, I had a bigger pile of cards with me that day.

It kinda bugs me...if you show off your new car, or buy yourself a new sofa...most folks don't immediately think to ask you to provide the resale value of it.

Why aren't baseball cards given more respect among others beside us crazy folks.

Well, my guess is that for a car or some other expensive item, it is readily apparent to others that there's some utilitarian value to the item. Whereas others consider baseball cards inherently useless so they figure the only reason you would buy them is there is some monetary value to them. It's ironic that items like cars depreciate from the day you buy them, but prewar cards have been appreciating for the last couple years.

That's our revenge. Laugh out loud.
