Default N28 Keefe - SGC30 or PSA Authentic Trimmed

Posted By: Judge Dred

Both of these were from auctions that ended on ebay within the last week:

Which would you take? -
The SGC30 at $371.99 or
The PSA Authentic / trimmed at $330?

This is interesting (to me at least) because that trimmed card in the Authentic holder looks rather nice. Is it time to start buying trimmed cards for a fraction of the cost? You can have them authenticated and slabbed and then possibly resell them for a decent price. How do collectors feel about trimmed cards being encapsulated as "authentic" cards?

JUDGE - The trimmed PSA presents itself much better then the untrimmed and beat up SGC version.
You bring up an interesting point that a trimmed card in a slab may be worth looking into. But I doub't that the Keefe that looks that nice could be had for a song from any dealer.
It could be that the submitter didn't know it was trimmed and then decided to slab it anyway. It sold at $330, between the cost of the card and grading fee, he may have lost money on it. And if he bought it not advertised as trimmed he may have lost several hundred on it.

If the print on the back of the SGC card is black, then it should be labelled "REPRINT".

but I'll take a low grade intact authentic card over a sharp looking trimmed card any day.
