Default T206 Value Appreciation: HoFers vs. Scarce Backs

What will appreciate in value more or quicker...

$40-80 HoFers

OR

Scarcer Backs (T206 Resource Ranks 1-25)

Edit: I meant to do a poll for this post, just for fun. Forgot to do the poll and just made the post.

Probably the backs but IMO it should be the HOFers.

Based on some research I've been doing, it's definitely the scarce backs. Obviously a HOF'er with a scarce back is the best of both worlds.

It does seem that the easily recognizable HOF'ers, such as Cobb, Mathewson, Chance, keep pace with the scarce backs moreso than the lesser known HOF'ers such as Joe Kelley or Elmer Flick. The "HOF" designation, while 100% accurate, is a bit to broad of a stroke imo, as I see probably three tiers of HOF'ers.

With a $40 - $80 HOF, you're talking the least famous HOFs. Cards that cheap, even HOFs, will not increase too much. Rare backs, even the lesser ones like CBs, BL350s, etc. will cost considerably more that $80, and will increase much more as well.

Scarce backs may increase, but the big HOF's should not be taken lightly as mentioned here before. I know Cobb (Any pose) and the Wajo portrait really went up in price a lot the last few years. I know there are back collectors, etc. but to me the person on the front is more important to me. I am not an expert, but I would vote for the HOF's. But either way, (Backs vs HOF's) both are excellent choices for an increase.

I agree, but the OP asked about $40 -$80 HOFs, which rules out Cobb Johnson, Young and Matty.

Since the T206 backs have seen their rise it would seem the $40-$80 HOF'ers might have a better chance at an uptick. It's debateable though ...

Not sure if y'all have seen my HoF PC Project posts in the BST (there is a Backs Project as well in the T206 post), but that's what prompted my original post here. Just an interesting discussion on The Monster and the value within. Thanks for the input/opinions thus far!
