Default Extrodinary Find of Old Judge Baseball Cards!!

Posted By: David Levin

I wanted to share this with the board members. A very significant find in the hobby! Over 1,000 cards found that were in the possession of the Daughter, age 93, of the original owner. The collection was put together in the Washington DC. area. I am guessing that since the original owner was born in 1877, that would make him nine when these started to be issued, he may very well have collected many of them as a child. The family moved to Fresno California in 1911 when the daughter was only six month old, and it is believed that he did not collect after that. His son in law sold off some of the cards in the early 70s to a San Diego area dealer, supposedly only duplicates, but, it was about $2,000 worth of them, so it must have been a significant amount of cards. He passed away in 1981, and they have been sitting in storage since then. There are many rarities, many previously unknown poses, and tough teams, or team changes in with the group.
About the only thing not present were the dotted ties, minis, and California League cards.

You are welcome to view the collection, the cards are all scanned up at the site, with just a minimal amount of duplicates having been scanned, there are about 1,125 card images up.

It is simply a collection of cards that defies description.

Have a look, and enjoy

David

NICE pick up Dave!!

I am still mulling the cards we discussed and will get back to you.

Thanks!

PS - What we all want to know is...

Did you get them all for $100 ... or is Matilda now driving an Escalade with spinners?

Great find!!!!! I am interested in any Pete Wood cards. What in the world is the card on the left, is it a mascot with a catchers mask on? Is it for sale?

I tried to look at the cards, but I keep getting the 404 error message.

Jay

I like to sit outside, drink beer and yell at people. If I did this at home I would be arrested, so I go to baseball games and fit right in.

With 12 Keefe's in the group, any chance you'll be seeling them off cheap?

Ok,
Half a million emails later. I got back with these last Wednesday night, and have decided to give up sleeping while getting them ready to present.
As you can imagine, between removing them from the albums, putting them in order, getting catalog numbers etc, I have not had time to price them.

You can send your wantlists as you have been doing, you can even make offers, but I have not decided exactly how I will be selling them yet. I am getting so many requests for some of the same cards, that we may have to do a highest offer gets the card type of situation. Maybe I will set up a small test auction on some of them.

At any rate, I will get pricing information within the next few days. I will entertain some offers. I would like to try to be fair about it, but the best offers will take the cards.

I will post again soon and or answer questions that you have.

Dave
