Default Goodwin and Co Pickups (June 2013)

Ugh anyone who stayed up part of the night really earned this one

Got one under where I thought I'd have to and the other above where I thought I'd have to so pretty much ended up right where I wanted to be

Jack...nice pickups...you're lucky as I tried to bid on Sweeney at 5:30 this morning...but apparently I never bid on it before extended play. I picked up 2 of those T216 BB's...most happy about adding another very unique Miller fielding to the collection!

Picked up 5 semi-rare back t206s at decent prices, considering the surge.

Jack, nice pickup on the Coveleskie! I was an under bidder on that and the Speaker. They both closed cheaper than I expected. Unfortunately for me events last night prevented me from bidding in the extended session.

Ahhh, I see who my competition was on some of the t216s...heh!

I was winning the Sweeney, McQuillan, Zimmerman, Wiltse, Bresnahan and Demmitt when I went to bed at 2am central. Fortunately, when I woke up, I still had Wiltse, Bresnahan and Demmitt so I was happy with those.

Someone out there got a heckuva deal on an e103 set too

I got quite hurt a few nights ago in a softball game (made the catch but can barely walk now, blood everywhere) and fell asleep early. But I must have bumped it 3-4 times, early on, then decided someone wanted it more than me.

Yeah, I can barely walk and will miss a double header tonight but I will get better. I have a massive contusion (huge) on one knee with a major road rash spot which is where most of the blood came from, a medium road rash on the other knee (more blood), a road rash on one shoulder (more blood) where I hit the ground and then several road rash spots on one arm (more but smaller blood). Our infield is some type of dirt- gravel...I play second base and dove for a short fly. The female umpire was looking for pieces of my skin the next 2 innings. She pointed to one on the ground but I didn't really care. I played the rest of the game, got 2 more hits and made a few putouts, but the aftermath is pretty bad for an old guy. We won the game. Back to cards.....

Will there be any "Game Used" skin fragments on the BST Leon?

Cheers,

One of my favorite T206s John. That is a great looking one. My copy is much lower grade and I still really like it. As for the skin.....I pulled it off my knee as it was just hanging there anyway...then threw it on the ground. Then the other team protested all of my blood but the umpire was cool and let me keep playing....

Wow, sorry to hear about this... it sounds awful. I am no stranger to injuries... I blew out my ankle a couple of months ago playing soccer and then as soon as I got back a month later, got a concussion... doing better now, but it is no fun being injured. Probably age does have something to do with it, but it sounds like you've got a rough infield. Hope you feel better soon.

I was thrilled to pick up not one but two of the Successful Farming Promo Cards, and two HOFers to boot:

I was disappointed to not win at least one of the other two, but today the glass is definitely half full.

Added the Bond Bread Jackie Robinson Running Down the Baseline.

I now need 2 more to complete the set - the Throwing variation, and the most common portrait facsimile signature variation.

Jerry, thank you. I am a little surprised or more that Goodwin did not mention in his description that these were promotional cards-unnumbered-and therefore even tougher than the already tough Successful Farming set. If that cost any bidders, so much the better for me, as these cards are scarce++++.

Hey Jim,
Great pickup. That is one of the cards that I targeted in the beginning and put in a very competitive bid (I thought) right out of the gate. I have to say the final price was a bit of a surprise to me, but that card has great eye-appeal and looks better than a SGC50. Congrats.

Jim - congratulations, you will be quite pleased when you receive this card! Beautiful example w/an Old Mill Back - definitely a candidate for cross-over, very strong 4 with great eye-appeal!

Thank you all for your bids and support! As many of you know I had my entire set of T206s in that auction. Some prices surprised me (Greg Mitchell - agreed that Dave Brain EPDG went far more than expected.) Some were great buys - whoever got the Demmit PB in a 40 got a great card at great price!

I don't recall the name of who won the Cy Young 70, but that card is absolutely gorgeous! I bought that in a show here in Chicago about a year or so ago.

Now, with the money from that sale, I can go after the DonRuss '84 set I have always dreamed of .. as well as .. perhaps, an E93 Wagner (to complete that set) and some of the 1914 CJ's :-)

Thanks again!
