I was fortunate this year to add a few items to my Boston collection, especially this 1889 cabinet of the Beaneaters team, and a 1907 cabinet of Nuf Ced McGreevey....

Great pick ups!

Love the Clemente stuff Mike. As a Puerto Rican he means so much to us as I know he does to the city of Pittsburgh. His 21, along with Ruth's 3 should be retired through out baseball in my opinion.

Mine has to be Mike Trout's 410th career hit. I'm not breaking new ground when I say he's likely to wind up as one of the greatest players ever to play the game and I'm happy to own a small piece of his career:

Default Bat Collection 2017

As a collector of early Pirates and Giants bats, I had a pretty good year.

2 Pro models:
1. Fred Clarke. Gold Medal 1908-1911.
2. Arky Vaughan. H&B 1939-43.

And 2 interesting bats:
1. Lloyd Waner. H&B 250 34.75" and 38 oz.
2. Bennie Kauff. Autograph 34.5" and 34 oz.

I have a copy of the same panoramic - very nice! The wording on the bottom of mine says it's the "14th annual convention of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association", from August 9, 1916.

Default Ruth Bat

Have been waiting a long time to pick this one up. It's a Ruth 40K, Professional Model, with both proper length and weight. The labeling period for this specific bat is '23 to '25, which also lines up perfect for his single order of 40K bats in early '23. PSA even notes that this is only the second 40K model they have authenticated, that they consider to be consistent with the 40K order appearing on Ruth's PBOR dated April 10, 1923. Very happy to have it as part of my collection.

You did pretty well for a “piker.”

Did Stargell just sign last name only?

Default Favorite pickups 2017

Dave Morehead no-hitter tickets (finally). Perhaps only 500 in attendance according to Peter Gammons that was in attendance- need I say more?

An incredible Spalding scorebook that contained many Ty Cobb games and Charlie Robertson's perfect game in 1922. This was the first time that a game was called a "perfect game".

Original home and away original umpire cards from Nolan Ryan's historic 3509th K game where he passes Walter Johnson (former leader) for the all-time career strikeout record. Nolan ended up with 5,714 career K's.

From Babe Ruth to Mike Trout, all of these pick ups are incredible. I always look forward to this thread for all of the eye candy. How such amazing items find their way to private collections never ceases to shock me. The bats, photos, and Scotts ticket are ridiculous! Bob I gotta agree with Rob. That fan...WOW.

Looking back, I've been able to pick up some really cool pieces over the last year.

Here are some of the highlights:

1) Jackie Robinson Negro League team signed baseball (although the angle of this picture only shows the logo and Jackie's sig) - I believe from the 1953 Barnstorming Tour since all the players (including Spec Bebop, the famous midget performer from the Indianapolis Clowns) were on that trip, although I still can't find evidence that this style baseball was definitively around in '53.)
2) Lineup cards from Brett's 3000 hit
3) Dick Cannonball Redding signed contract
3) 1945 Happy Chandler Commissioner Contract signed by a representative for each team and each league.

How could I forget! My Barney Dreyfus signed contract was my most exciting pickup for me. My one goal I really wanted to get this year was a Dreyfus autograph. I was thrilled to get it on a contract.

Can't pick a favorite, so will just post some of the best. If nothing else, this will demonstrate the fact that I have no discipline or "collecting focus" whatsoever

1. Joe Morgan Game-used Jersey, circa 1975
2. Tigers Champs Embroidered Pillow, circa 1907
3. Jackie Robinson Story Movie Poster, circa 1950
4. Phillies Heavy Dugout Jacket, circa Late 1930s
5. Mike Schmidt's Immense Seagrams 7 Trophy, circa 1981

Great stuff.

My favorite is an easy decision, I picked one of my grails this year. 1962 game used Mets road jersey worn by Joe Christopher and then an unknown player in Spring Training 1963.

Original home and away original umpire cards from Nolan Ryan's historic 3509th K game where he passes Walter Johnson (former leader) for the all-time career strikeout record. Nolan ended up with 5,714 career K's.
Wow Scott, awesome pickups!!! I really enjoy seeing your collection grow!

All killer stuff Mark. The Tiger pillow is too cool. Love oddball stuff like that.

Thanks for all the compliments on the Tigers Pillow... sorry I can't properly rotate the photo.

It was just recently on ebay and I was pretty happy to get it. I also was not sure (during the bidding) whether it was a Folk Art or a Manufactured piece. After receiving it, I am 98% sure its a manufactured piece. Cannot imagine the skill and patience it would have taken to hand-embroider that.... it's so intricate and precise.

But who knows for sure? Never seen another one to compare it to, and am guessing we never will.

Probably my favorite memorabilia acquisition in 2017 came from a guy who knew someone who worked for the sign company that manufactured the Orioles' HOF signage at Camden Yards...At one point about 7-8 years ago, the Orioles wanted to make all the signs larger, so they took down the old ones and produced new ones...This guy had the Cal Ripken Jr. sign that sat in his son's room and now that the kid is out of college, they were cleaning out his room & offered it on Craigslist:

Here is how the display looks now at Camden Yards (if you look closely, they changed Cal's picture when they made the new sign):
