Not sure if anyone went or if anyone has any results yet. Mostly interested in the final price of the C55 set that was stuck to a piece of paper. Thanks

Jim, I threw in bids on 4 of the lots (including the hockey cards) in the FO Bailey auction but haven't heard anything yet either.

I don't know when they will let us know. They were responding to my emails right up until I faxed my bid. Then nothing.

Bob.. How much did you bid on the hockey lot? I'll tell if you do.

You guys look curious, so here goes.

I lost out on the Ramly cards but picked up the first two lots of caramels and assorted T cards as well as the Imperial hockey and all of the boxing, golf and billiards.
Someone was sure pushing on those first two lots, so they went for a little more than I was hoping for.

The Baseball will surface graded in about a month is my guess.

Dave

I just got off of the phone with Dave and my bid on the C55's I thought would hold up but I was not even going to be close to what Dave was willing to pay.

FO Bailey did OK on this stuff. Apparently what I thought was tape residue was from the photo mounts and does not affect the cards at all.

Dave got some decent stuff. Thankfully we are neighbors.

Since no one will tell me the final price, was my bid of $1650 in the ballpark?

I guess you saw it differently in person. I did not know how much paper loss there would be to the backs, even after they sent the scan of the card that fell off. I would have bid a lot more if I saw them in front of me.

I did not go, I stayed here in Sunny California. Just to unique of a piece, I was on the phone, and there was a lot of action from floor bidders, I would have gone much higher than I did.

I never even got to see the blasted cards! At least Mastro is visable!

Ben said my Radbourne scan was lousy, so I worked on this one about an hour and a half. It's the most honest, and the best, one I'll ever make of this card--AMEN!

So does anybody know what the Ramly lot sold for and what the E95 near set went for? I wasn't that interested in the other caramel/tobacco lot although I am sure Cobb and Cicotte caused it to be expensive.

The first two lots of Caramels and T205s sold for close to $6,000 each lot.

The starting bid was $1,000 each, but I looked over the cards very carefully on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning while I was there. The Wagner E95 had some tough paper loss on the front, the Cobb had a cellophane corner that had adhered to the bottom right corner and the Mathewson T205 had a signficant crease on the bottom front. The cards were generally in decent shape VG+ - EX...And yes, some of the cellophane corners came off, but it looked like in many cases they stuck to the cards because of years of humidity. The Wagner's corner stuck, and when it was pulled off, that tough paper loss resulted.

The 39 Sweet Caporal Domino Discs went for $475.

The Goudey Boy Scout cards went for $400.

The C55 Hockey cards sold for $3,200, although they were all pasted down on a white page,
and their backs had serious glue residue on them.

I bought a lot of 36 Mecca/Hassan Champion Athletes and Prize Fighter cards, and am trying to figure out where I can find any more info on these cards. Any advice?

Thanks!

before the juice, just the ones I bid on.

ramlys $6,700
lot 1 $5,700
lot 2 $5,500
three boxing lots went for a total of about $1,000
golfers $200
billiard players $160

There were only seven phone lines to my knowledge, and they were a little unorganized with some inexperienced people handling the phones.

A little disorganized but it looks like they secured some nice prices for the items. Congrats to all the winners. I wish I had seen the Domino Discs. How did I miss those??????

them--were the C55s the ones that were glued to a backcardboard? Greg saqid only one group was. I think that's quite high if they were.

Bob,

The Domino Discs were all rusted out; I'm not sure that means anything to you, but they weren't in the best shape.

Hockey cards were glued to a sheet. The others were placed on a black felt album sheet using cellophane corners (like stamp collectors do), and many of the corners adhered to the cards because of years of condensation and humidity.

In my honest opinion, the lots went very high given the condition of the cards. Of course, there might be something I don't know about these cards that someone else does. However, I did spend a good deal of time looking them over very carefully, and did a lot of research on comparable market value.

One thing I've learned from running around to estate sale auctions, etc is that you can realize some really insane prices on really crappy stuff. I'm getting ready to hand off all my remaining SLUs to a local auctioneer because becuase the people that bid on these things around here actually believe book values and bid accordingly. Where as on eBay, you can't even get back what you paid for these things when they came out.

I've also seen baseball and sports related stuff go for just stupid prices becuase they are sports related. The only thing I've been able to buy at resonable prices are old books, radios and bakelite items. No one around here seems to be interested in them. I have no illusions of being able to pick up any vintage baseball cards cheap if any ever turn up at an auction around here.
