Default Lots of Goodies on Teletrade for about 5 more hours

Posted By: Todd (nolemmings)

Wow, what a horrible time for me to be broke (like there's a good time for that). Colgans Ty Cobb SGC 88, Matty Sporting Life PSA 9, Polo Grounds Shoeless SGC 92, 1/3 of the m101-4 set in PSA 7 or 8, including Gandil and the Big Train. I could scroll down no further, I was already too heartbroken to see what else I could not afford. Check out the material- hell, at least I got to download a whole bunch of really nice scans.

Vorthian, I saw that many of the lots didn't sell at all, and am wondering if we're starting to see a slowdown in the hobby. I confess I only periodically check in on teletrade-- I guess I'm too turned off by the juice they charge when EBay does not, and the fact that if you win multiple lots, they insist on charging you $6.00 per item shipping, no exceptions. Probably a little petty on my part, and it wouldn't stop me if I saw something I really wanted (sorry you got squeezed on the Colgan's Cobb).
Anyway, I've seen that the m101-4 set has been soft for some time, which is good for me because I'm just getting into it. Also,I thought the Matty would at least fetch the opening. The entire auction must have been a disappointment, at least from a vintage standpoint. Makes it all the more frustrating to be broke, when all those bargains just sit there without bidders.

Colgan's Cobb SGC 88: This thing was gross at the end. At 975 or so, I put in the "next bid" which came to me at 1050. Somewhere in the next few seconds, two more bids came in. Ahh well.

The Matty opened at 4900: It didn't get a bid and didn't sell. SMR is 6200.

JJ SGC 92: This card was in Teletrade about a month ago with an opening bid of $1250. If you need a better scan, let me know.

M101-4 set: Not much interest here and the prices were way below SMR values. I recall there was a Maranville PSA 8 on eBay by the seller bigmac1960 and it didn't do that well... did better in the Superior auction he got it from.

Start saving your coins, boys and girls. At the Sportsfest show, I learned that Dave Forman has been added to Teletrade's staff. Expect some of his "inventory" to surface in the months to come.

Check Superior's latest auction as well, you will see many items that didn't hit the reserve as well. Yes, there is a slowdown in the hobby but I don't see it in key vintage HOF's. Check eBay yesterday for the York Ruth that sold for $1225. That quells the thought of a "slowdown"...

Yes, the juice can be frustrating but I'm not sure I have the same sentiments on the shipping cost. I would say I purchase a great deal from Teletrade and shipping has never been a problem for multiple lots. For instance, when I won 13 CJ's ranging from PSA 4 - PSA 6, my shipping cost was $12.75. Thanks for your concern about the Cobb, however, when coming at the end I have roughly a 40% chance of winning a particular item. Just call me the underbidder!

I have a friend who heavily invested into CISCO because he thought it was a "bargain". It went from $50 -> $20 in no time at all. For a personal collection, I like the M101-4/5s but from a resale standpoint I would avoid it.

You said you also purchased that N29 Ewing PSA 8 from Superior right? I could have sworn I saw that exact copy at SportsFest and I'm sure I could have gotten it much cheaper.

Drop me your wantlist - the next Rosemont, IL show is in about a month.
