Default Sport King Thorpe: Authentic?

Posted By: John Barnes

Hello All,
Are these cards authentic? Can you tell? What more information would you need to be able to tell? My guess is the one on the right is authentic, the one on the left I am not as sure about. That is why I am deferring to you folks!

A back scan would be a really big help. You are correct, the one on the left is an obvious fake. The one on the right seems good, but I need to see a back scan to be sure.

I think the card on the left is legit. (This assumes that the card on the right is in fact legit)

What about the paper loss right next to "Boston"? Isn't that where the word "Reprint" was placed on these?

Left fake, right authentic.

Since the scans are so good its easy. You need to look at the bottom left and right corner, notice on the authentic card (on right) the black strip at bottom extends ever so slightly farther into the white border than the yellow background, and also notice the yellow is not registered perfect and the player on the left side extends into the border slightly. The reprint had the image cropped (like the R319 reprints) and the edge of the photo area and border is too straight all the way around.

i love how frank not only tells you which is fake, but then also goes into detail why or how you can tell it's fake. i've seen him do it with 8 or 9 different issues already. Very informative for the stuff you don't collect but just want to buy a single HOF'er for type-carding.
