Default T3 line question

what do people make of the dark thick "print" lines often found just inside the borders of T3 cards? i have all of mine without them (working on a set for many years, i need 18 to complete), but in the last RE Auction and this Heritage Auction, many of the cards are graded PSA 5 or better yet have this dark print line about an 1/8" inside the border, on one or more borders of the cards.Since the cards are plentiful without this line, i would consider it a defect (at any rate, it bothers my eyes) and i would not buy these cards.

any idea what these lines are from? were there print runs or storage issues?

any help or thoughts welcome.

( i would attach a picture but haven't figured out how to load that up yet...you can go look at the Schlei or Sullivan T3's in Heritage this month to see the line(s))

Hello,

To be sure, I wouldn't call these print lines or print defects. To me they appear as a bit of edge toning or staining and would also say that some of the darkening on the edges is due to a slight shadow created by the scanning process. The PSA holders are quite thick and when placed on a scanner, the cards can "settle" a bit and create a ledge of sorts and then a shadow.

T3s are found with printer marks on the back but are generally very distinct, small and limited to the corner areas.

Hope that helps.

Happy Collecting,
Craig
