I have to admit that I am guilty of that myself. While working a deal with another board member, I was cleaning out my PM box and accidentally deleted all my PMs (including those pertaining to the deal) and I couldn't remeber the username of the other board member to contact them.

Yes - unless it's the scenario mentioned above, I'd expect other folks to act with some decency and at least respond saying they're not interested. Disappearing in the middle because one changed their mind is pretty immature.
