I thought this image was a really nice one... so I figured I would share a scan.

It is the inside cover of the December 1925 issue of Baseball Magazine (it is not the same issue of Baseball Magazine from one of my other posts). Inside the magazine is an article on Matty's funeral with pictures of baseball attendees. This inside cover picture was a reproduction of a painting as a memorial.

Anyway... great image... enjoy....

That is a great image.

I have the same one as issued as an insert in the 1915 Park Edition of Baseball Magazine with Walter Johnson on front. The earlier image is a tad different than the memorial one - red buttons and artists signature in grey versus red.

Heres a look at the the magazine and insert from REA back in 2004. I only own the insert, not the magazine.

They both look good framed. I have the cover one myself.

The magazine mine came from was in bad shape. I bought it framed already but took it out once to look at the back. It is well worn and Im sure the magazine/cover was falling apart or close to. The guy that framed it also put the back cover with a Walter Johnson picture (B&W) behind the Matty front cover pic. So I have both covers.

Yes, a pretty cool picture (b/w) of Johnson on the inside back cover.

If I pull out the text and let the cover lay flat, maybe I would frame Matty / Johnson side by side as one 11x17.

Now thats an idea!

You can make a digital copy and print it out. I had an 1873 Haprer's Weekly of the Philadelphia Athletics-- composite of all the players. I scanned Cap Anson, matted and framed it and it looks nice on the wall. Collectors can do this with smaller photos, postcards and cards. A major positive is that you don't have to worry about sun or display damage when they're reprints.
