Default What is considered the Rookie card for Jesse Haines?

Posted By: Richard

Greetings fellow collectors, what is considered the rookie card of Jesse Haines? I would guess that it is the 1922 E120 American caramel. I am collecting Haines and would be interested to find out. Does anyone know of a website reference that might have a database for Hall of Famer rookie cards?
Thank You

Is'nt he in the Clark's bread which the SCD says came out in 1921 and share the same check lists as the American Caramel series 80 and W575-1 which both came out in 1922. So then the Clark's breaad should be listed as 1922 and not 1921?

Richard,

Jesse Haines Rookie Card is whatever card you consider his rookie card for your collection. If you talk to 10 collectors, you will probably get 10 different answers (for Haines or any other player). There is essentially never 100% consensus on this topic.

No one knows the checklist for Clarks Bread cards, they are too rare.

I agree with you 100%. I just like to see what other collectors consider to be his rookie. Then I can compare the results and get a concensus. I think the rookie card of any HOF'er (my opinion only) is his first issue in a major card set. Now we open another can of worms. What are considered (major) card sets. I would have to say nationally distributed large sets promoting a product (gum, tobacco, etc). Certainly 1922 E120 American Caramel and the 1921 & 1922 E121 American Caramel issues. Also, the V61 Neilson's chocolates set. Are exhibit cards considered major card sets? They were available in penny arcades I believe. Not sold to promote any products. I do not consider them major card sets.

I realize that and really don't care to get into that in more detail. Everyones opinion will be different depending on who collects those cards. Thanks for the comment. Have a great weekend.

I would say either the 1921 exhibit if you collect exhibit cards (which were distributed nationally I believe) or this one:
