Not that it is possible for me to do it, but I would rather have the jumbo than the trimmed Gretzky any day.

"No other T206 Wagner card has gone up for sale in the last 15 years apart from this one in 2013."

Did this writer bother to do any research?

I had the same thought. Didn't one just sell a month or two ago in REA?

no other high-grade T206 Wagner card has gone up for public sale in 15 years, apart from this one in 2013.

But also not true, because the author acknowledges the Gretzky Wagner sold in 2007, which is definitely in the last 15 years....

Wasn't the Gretzky a private sale?

Since the Gretzky Wagner is trimmed (famously so,) wouldn't its grade be "A", which is not a high grade by any stretch of the imagination?

Yes it was: http://www.sportscollectorsdaily.com...rd-sold-again/

Ken Kendrick was later revealed as the buyer.

But it's so famously trimmed that it's not trimmed (lol). IMHO, this one, despite Mastro's handiwork, will always lead the pack!

Despite his handiwork, or because of it (and the notoriety it brought to the card?)

I'd hate to think he actually succeeded in transforming it into the highest-valued Wagner, even though the alteration was discovered and his confession made public.

In fact, if his alteration did in fact enhance it's value, with everyone in full knowledge (now) of what was done... who was actually damaged and where's the crime?

I don't even know if that was among the crimes he was actually charged with. There were plenty to choose from besides that.

Ken is probably correct in his estimate based upon other ridiculous prices that are being realized right now. God knows I wish I had my 2 -1969 Topps Ryan's back along with the SGC 96 Clemente rookie. If these rookie prices are astronomical these days, what is a solid Wagner going to bring? Don't be shocked if this card exceeds $5 Mill......

I couldn't afford the trimmings off Mastro's cutting table. I wonder if those will ever go up for sale?

I wonder where the writer got this from: "As a result, there were only about 200 Wagner cards made,..." I don't recall ever seeing an estimate of how many T206 Wagners were printed, but I have to think the number is many times greater than 200.

Default Post war prices up...prewar prices not so much

There is no question that people are paying stupid money regarding post war cards like the 1952 Mantles, however, my observation over the last few years is that prewar cards prices have started to trend in the opposite direction.

I think he made up that and some other stuff too. I believe it is a called a fairytale when you do that.

My estimate is 2.78M after juice

It's been a few years, but from what I remember from the book "The Card", on the day Mastro met the seller and purchased the card, he mentioned it "wasn't cut right". Could the famous Wagner have been a Jumbo Wagner like this one or is the consensus that he cut it from a sheet?

This is going to sound ridiculous but I think it's going to go for over 10 million. Maybe higher if 2 parties have to have it. Right now at that grade it's probably the most valuable single card (that specific actual card). If a rose rookie 9 can go for 150k this can go for 10 mil easy in my opinion.

Hopefully the Masto one wasn't from a sheet. In my mind cutting a sheet that would be far worse than trimming down a large card. Neither are acceptable, but cutting up even a partial sheet destroys a unique piece of history. (For older cards, if it's something like 83 Topps where the sheets could be bought at retail not so much)

I'd expect that a lot of Wagners were printed, and a decent number released before they were pulled. It's hard to know just how many since the packing log books only had dates for the start of packing, start of shipping and discontinued.
It's also a question of when they were pulled. After the print run had completely shipped? Then they'd all have been cut and sent to the packing plants where the labor of removing them would be up to the packing plant. When part of the overall run had shipped? Packing plant pulls some (Or ignores it until they're mostly used up - wouldn't be out of the question especially back then. Printing plant pulls some.

I can't help but imagine there's some survived printers waste out there that's tradecards or something on one side and a T206 on the other. The chances of anything like that surviving are very small.

I really liked the panhandlers signs. Pretty creative if they're for real.
Reminds me of one that "worked" near college. Asked for money one day when I was going into McDonalds. Claimed he hadn't eaten in three days. When I offered to buy lunch he declined! So I told him that if he just wanted booze money he should say so. A couple weeks later he asks again - "hey buddy, can you spare some change? I haven't..........recognition sets in "I need some money for booze" I gave him a couple dollars

i think some of your estimate valuations on this wagner are as insane as the people driving up post war rookie prices. IMO...this is a 2-3 mill card MAX.

How about a contest for final price of the card? Could be fun.

Steve, my recollection from reading "The Card" is that it had been cut from a sheet, but before Mastro got his mitts on it.

Best,

What?? Are you serious? High-Grade?

All "A" cards are always considered low grade. Actually they don't grade so they are less than low grade. Price is irrelevant.

Just a wild guess...I suspect Jumbo will bring approximately same price as last sale of Gretzky Wagner ($2.8 M).

Smart person!!

(I don't think there would be enough slots, for estimates, to have a game but we'll see...) Should be interesting.
