Terrible image, with no ability to zoom in - but looks real to me.

I don't get how anyone can tell much from those images. If I was looking for that card I'd probably pass anyway since the pics are so bad.

Looks to have a blue caption? Then with that as suspect add in the coloring, which is quite off, and most likely you have another graded fake . No?
.
Compare....

Ok, looked at a bunch of them.

On my monitor the caption looks black. But colors between scans and on monitors are often not reliable.

There's another "Aged" reprint with similar massive overinking of the red, so yes, probably fake.

But the extra color itself?
Strip cards, even the fairly nice ones are wildly inconsistent.
Here's another with the same extra color.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-W551-Fr...oAAOSwI-BWPA~0

The extra is more skin tone than red, but it's there. And a lot of the ones that don't show it in scans probably would show traces of it up close.

Makes me wonder about that difference and if it appears on other cards in the set. Sigh, another project.......

Brian and Leon, if you guys say it's fake, I definitely believe you. But why on earth would anyone go to all this trouble for $75?

Default W551

All the W551 cards with blue captions are Larry Fritsch reprints. I have seen other blue captioned cards graded before...it makes you wonder about TPG abilities to spot a non-authentic.

As to the question why someone would do this with a $75 card? I believe that the most likely scenario is that whoever sent it in originally bought it thinking it was authentic, then PSA 'authenticated' the reprint. So most likely the seller believes that he has an authentic card...why not, a TPG authenticated it.

That is why in my original post I expected that PSA do their job a little more thoroughly.

Default George Sisler examples

Here is a good comparision examples of the George Sisler W551. The first one is authentic, the second one is one of the blue captioned reprints.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/GEORGE-SISLE...UAAOSwP0RXh9bg

http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-W551-St...gAAOSwxndXTiYN

Note not only the blue caption, but also that the colors get really funky in the reprint. Check out what is going on with the shadowing area on Sisler's cap in the original versus the pyschedelia of the reprint.

I had thought Fritsch was very scrupulous in actually marking his reprints as such, did he not do that with these?

So has somebody e-mailed the seller? Talk about a reason to buy the card and not the flip. WTF are TPGs for if they can't spot reprints?

I guess he thought changing the caption color would be enough on this issue.
