Default Sports Museum Opening in New York City

Posted By: Richard S. Simon

I got this info from a website called SportsCollectorsDaily.com

The Sports Museum of America (SmA) is inviting collectors and fans from around the country to loan their favorite sports mementos for exhibition alongside those of Jesse Owens, Shannon Miller, Muhammad Ali, Jim Craig, Billie Jean King, and other sports legends when SmA opens in New York City this May.

Between now and March 7th, SmA is asking the public to send in photos and a description of their prized possessions. Museum curators will select the top 50 for exhibition when the museum opens to the public in May.

The Sports Museum of America is the nation's first and only all-sports experience showcasing the history, grandeur and significance of sports in American culture. Created in exclusive partnership with over 50 single-sport Halls of Fame, National Governing Bodies and other sports organizations across North America, SmA features state-of-the-art interactive technologies, dramatic original films and acollection of sports memorabilia.

SmA will also be home to the legendary Heisman Trophy including the annual televised presentation. The museum will be located in New York City at 26 Broadway (next to the "Charging Bull" and the Statue of Liberty Ferry.

“The Sports Museum of America will, for the first time, offer vistors one destination where they can come to experience the feeling of triumph at the core of all great athletes and all sports,” said Philip Schwalb, the museum’s Founder & CEO. “With the tremendous support of our partners in top professional athletic organizations and the generosity of some of the nation’s greatest and most legendary athletes, we’ll be able to share their stories, and through them, showcase the excitement, grandeur and significance of sports in American culture.”

Submissions of collector's items can be entered at www.sportsmuseum.com/fans. The museum is offering the opportunity to win a trip to New York City for the opening day festivities in May.
