Looking at the other listings, this seller is trying every reprint commonly made looking for a sucker.

I have this mental picture of whoever this seller is pushing the submit button on these listings and the computer makes that sound of the line coming off a fishing reel and a little "splish" as the worm hits the water.

Get the feeling this guy is waiting for his bobber to go under all day?

He also has a Plank and Wagner listed.
And he is in Hong Kong.
Seems legit.

This is one of the reasons I hate reprints, I wish every reprint would disappear from the face of the earth. I feel a very high percentage of them are just used to scam people.

Of course they are. Reprints are scammers fodder. But for some collectors they can serve a purpose (I guess) or they wouldn't be made. Many, many years ago this same debate was had.

Default Reprints

I am mostly a post war collector and have been collecting since 1957. My main focus has been Topps and Fleer. I have the Topps sets, 1948 and 1951 to 2015, and Fleer 1923 (work in progress), and 1959 to 2007.

I was born in 1950 and never had personal interaction with the Bowman sets when they were active, and for a long time did not consider putting them together. Fritsch was selling reprints of those sets for 48 through 52 ( not sure if reprints for 53 to 55 exist or not), and I bought them just to become familiar with them some. Since then I have put together the Bowman run, 48 to 55. But I still have the reprints. I would give them away if I knew someone who just wanted them as reprint sets

Al,

PM Sent.

All,
As an FYI... I know at least the '53 was reprinted (both color and BW issue) as smaller size cards rather than the original size.

I am a set builder, but just got into it relatively recently after a long hiatus. I built the Topps 73, 75, 78, 79, 80 and 81 sets (I know...not very vintage for most of you!) I am in the process of building the 72, 76 and 77 as well.

But I just started on 2 new ambitious projects...the 1953 Bowman and the 1960 Topps. I have made a dent into the Bowman set, and I plan to store it in an album for easy display.

I actually just figured out why I plan to purchase a reprint set of the Bowman. The key cards are going to be graded, and those cannot be displayed in the album. Instead of having a hole in an album page where, say, Pee Wee Reese would be, I can plug the hole with the reprint.

If someone is giving away a '53 Bowman reprint set, let me know!!!

Here is something to try for those key cards, i have done it a few times with great results. Scan in card, crop it to be just the card without the holder, and print it out on photo paper lifesize. You then have an exact duplicate of your card, wrinkles, creases, defects, everything - then put that scanned duplicate in your plastic sheet in your album. The ones I have done, people look at the sheet and they dont even realize they are looking at a scan on one of the cards!!! Also, you know you are looking at your exact card, not some perfect reprint.
