Default 1923-24 Nacionales - non-baseball sets

So, I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a '23-24 Nacionales Torriente a few weeks ago.

Included with the Torriente card was a lot of 50+ other Nacionales and other Cuban non-sports cards. Below is a sample of the Nacionales lot I received with just silent film stars (series F):

Anyone seen any of these before? Included in the film star set were Bebe Daniels, Reed Howes, Claire Adams, Lester Cuneo, Pedro de Cordoba, Richard Talmadge & Mildred Harris, Edmund Lowe, and Buster "The Great Stone Face" Keaton

The backs of all Nacionales cards state that there are 100 cards in each of 10 series. Does anyone have a complete checklist of the 1,000 cards that make up the entire Nacionales "set"? If not, do they at least know what types of cards are included in the 10 different series? I believe there are also boxers, soccer players, movie scenes, etc.

I'll update this list as more information becomes available (if at all). Series:

A -
B -
C - sports (baseball - 60, not sure about other 40)
D - scantily clad women (Mme, Sig., etc.)
E -
F - silent film stars
G -
H -
I -
J -

From Troy Kirk's Movie Card Website, you can try this link:

There doesn't appear to be a complete checklist, but they give some information on the sets.

Nice Torriente card, Derek. Sorry, I can't help you more with the non-baseball cards in that set.

Hi Derek,

I've collected both the baseball and non baseball subjects.

Both are hard to find. I don't remember finding a full checklist for the non baseball subjects.

Default 1923-24 Nacionales

Hi Rob -

Thanks for the post. I had a hard time making out who or what was being presented in the other series in the lot, but it was certainly fun going through and documenting what I have. I believe many of the other series depict scenes from movies with no attribution to the film or actors. The lot included 7 cards from series A, 7 from series B, 7 from D, 17 from E, 2 from G, 1 from H, and 3 from I.

I'll post more scans if time permits.

I have many that are strange scenes. These should have different backs and are usually smaller sized from my experience.

Actually, all of them had identical backs as the Torriente and film stars. For some reason, two of the cards in series I had the back "stamp" in the opposite direction of all the other Nacionales cards.

Here are the backs of series F:

There were three other cards in the lot that did have a different back (Aviso), but were similar in look, size, and feel as the Nacionales. See below:

Aguilitas is a different set.

The other card there is a 1930s issue after a revolution. I have a boxing card from the set. Quite rare but also obscure.

There are five Nationales boxing cards. All local Cuban fighters. I think I have some or all on my site. Link below.

Hi Adam -

Yes, I am aware that the other two are different sets altogether. I believe the last one comes from the 1933 Royal Tobacco set. I couldn't find your five Nacionales cards on your site. I found the five 1931 Quintana cards, but not the Nacionales. I'd be interested to see if they are also in series B. Do you know if there are any other boxers, or are the five a complete set of boxers (to your knowledge)?
