Default January Pickups

I couldn't resist the opportunity to start the first memorabilia pickup thread of the new year! I picked up this original photo in the most recent Henry Yee auction. I placed a bid knowing that I wouldn't get it and was pleasantly surprised to learn I won it.

Default Happy New Year everyone!

Visiting friends and family this past week in Vancouver BC and stopped into a large used bookstore downtown today on my way to the airport - pleased to have found this 1932 Portland Beavers PCL pennant winners "program". Filled with player photos and bios.

Default Catcher figural business card holder

Picked up this neat little catcher figural business card holder that uses the same catcher figure that my trophy topper uses.

Bob,
That's a great and very unusual photo of Sandy batting.
I never realized that Sandy swung the bat from the right side and he actually looks like he knows what he's doing.
Thanks for sharing!

This baby was #2 on my Holy Grail of pinbacks and I finally found one! This ends an at least two month drought of not finding anything. I guess that's what keeps us going.

That's a VERY COOL photo. I really like the photo's of how low budget they went back in the day when it came to an award ceremony.

Default January oddball Vander Meer pickups

I finally was able to add two neat 1939 oddball Vander Meer items to my collection:

The back panel of a 1939 Huskies Cereal that features Johnny Vander Meer on how to pitch and "develop Winning Form on the mound".
Vander Meer's "Double No-Hit" success allowed him to add some promotional endorsements in the off season including one with Huskies Cereal.

A neat vintage Harvard Brewing Co. poster that features Vandy amongst other current events from the 1938 season in the east coast. These were called "Harvard Brews Picture News" and originated from Lowell, Mass. Dimensions of the poster are 19" x 23".

I wanted to move into my first house (city boy) containing no windows and a stairway so I could hang a few things. My wife chose one with all windows and no stairway. I have over 200 hanging pieces and 10+ showcases. My wife hates me.......

Default January additions

I picked up these cool 1965 Milwaukee Braves promo bats for my Joe Torre collection.
I also bought this Joe DiMaggio photo from the Mears auction, thinking I was getting a vintage 1934-36 photo of him in the PCL. What I got was this RIDICULOUS poster sized photo of Joe D.
I have no idea where I am going to put it.

You could use the RIDICULOUS poster to wrap around the beautiful ED Mathews bat to help protect it during shipping. Expensive packing material but for a good cause.

I added the Ed Mathews bat to my collection. Thanks Sean.

I can't say this is a pick up but I saw one of these on ebay, an original I assume (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Country-Stor...4AAOSwmrlUtLaU). I decided to make my own with a twist. I made mine into a storage box for my flats. Looks like the original box but turn it around and it has 5 pull out drawers. Tip Tops are my favorite cards so I think it's pretty neat.

1908 lithograph titled 'Three Men on Base' by Edward Penfield. This image originally was in the Colliers Weekly from April 26, 1902. Six years later it was made available by Colliers although I don't know the exact purpose. In 1911, it would also serve as the cover for the Book of Baseball.

The second item is a Daily Graphic woodcut from 1873 showing a very young Cap Anson. I believe this is the earliest woodcut of Anson but could be wrong.

Picked up this banner from Brett's Hall of Fame induction. These flew Downtown in KC and are very hard to find. Three feet wide by four and a half feet long. Sorry about the crappy picture. George has always been a very big supporter of ALS. Its a neat picture of him and Gehrig together.
