WAY O/T...BUT...Yankees Master Set?

i don't want to loose credibility here, but my uncle has been asking me to post this question...(i already told him this is strictly a vintage board, but he insisted i tried asking)...so here goes:

my uncle has this sealed set from 2000, "Yankees Master Collection". it is supposed to have bat cards from ruth, gehrig, joe d, etc...and autograph cards...a special set, limited to 500...

does anyone know anything about this set? what it is worth, etc? i saw 2 for sale on eBay (both buy it now, one for $1400, and the other for $3800)...

any info would be greatly appreciated and would help get my uncle off my back...

The set was selling for good money a while back, and I assume it's still worth
something. I don't follow modern cards, but know that it was a hot commodity.
The PSA board likely can offer you better info.

There is a guy on the CU board that has tracked every one that has sold publicly since they were first offered. I"m sure a post there will get you pretty comprehensive information.

MS, The T200's are a great looking set. They will be my next set if I finish my T206's or need to take a break with them. Now all I have to do is find the money to but them. Joe

MS - I have the 2000 Yankees Master Set with the box number 005. I knew there was not going to be a DiMaggio in that set, so I snagged 005 as a way for me to include Joe D. in the set. Boy did I lose my ass on that one, soon after that set came out, the game used cards came out everywhere to the point that they are commonplace now. I still have the set, but it is probably worth 20% of what I paid for it.

cmoking- my uncle's set is #318, sealed...any guess as to its value? what cards are still out there (not yet found, that might be in the sealed sets?)

I haven't kept up-to-date on it. I think there were 3 Ruth auto's in the 500. That's where the value is, if there is any left. I have no idea how many were found. The guy that Griffins was talking about surely knows more than me. Good luck!

How's the 2000 Brewers Master Sets holding up? I bought ten of those to ensure
early retirment. 3 Pat Listach autos was the rumor.

I once was given a 1993 collegiate/rookies limited edition sealed wooden box set that included
two autographed cards inside: Troy Aikman and Rick Mirer (once hot prosect). That was
pretty cool. When I got it, Mirer was already done, but Aikman is a HOFer.

cmoking, you are probably correct with an estimate of value being about 20% of the original cost. I believe they originally sold for $5000. I have been tracking these on ebay over the last couple of years. The selling price has ranged from about $600-$1000 depending on whether it was still sealed or not, and whether the bonus pack was included and/or opened. I almost pulled the trigger awhile back but decided to spend the money on vintage cards instead.
