Default Did I really need that? :)

Have you ever seen something that just caught your eye and you bought it and absolutely didn't need it? So much for any negotiating. The price was the price.....(I asked twice )

Default Nice pickup

Leon,

That's a really nice Cobb S74. It's also a color I don't recall ever seeing!

Enjoy,

Patrick

Thanks Patrick. I think most of us that are truly addicted have probably run into this before. The guy with his hand out, giving you another hit off the proverbial crack pipe. Man, I hate paying someone's asking price but the guy wasn't budging. I justified it as I don't have another color S74 that is a regular silk (I have two color ones that are miscuts) but I sure hated paying that sticker. In looking around I didn't see any of that particular color on the internet, though I am sure some exist. It is in really nice condition too. Had it not been for those factors I wouldn't have pulled the trigger. Oh yeah, and it's Cobb, who is always good to collect .

Leon,

sometimes you have to just pull the trigger the way you did.....how often will you see another??

When it arrives , that will solidify your decision.....your a true type collector, and a piece like that belongs in your collection....kudos on a beauty in almost unseen condition.....

I don't think there's a person in here who hasn't bought something they didn't need. If that was your boondoggle, It's a beautiful one.

Sharp looking Cobb S74. I have done the same type of purchase twice before. Both times you have that hint of remorse but it fades.

There's only a few things that I need....and baseball cards, autographs, and photos don't make the cut. They are a lot of fun, however.

Hi Leon:

Could ths be the same one? http://jul12.hugginsandscott.com/cgi...l?itemid=47515

From Huggins and Scott recent auction. Looks the same to me. Now you can see how much the seller made on the deal.

Fred

Default I'd

I'd say, Enjoy the card (silk)! Don't over-analyze how much you spent. It's a one of a kind and something you like. Don't let $ stop you from enjoying your purchase...I bought a card recently for a little more than I would've liked to spend on it but have not seen a similar card available. Of course, you know you could get close to what you spent on it so no need to beat yourself up over a couple extra bucks if that ends up being the case

I knew about this but not before I bought it. I don't think it would have made a difference anyway. I didn't see it when it got sold the first time. My fault. Win some lose some . Just glad to add it to my collection now. I guess it's one of those things where I will overpay for my collection but don't want to when for resale.. Happy collecting!!

After a time, you may find that having a card is not so pleasing a thing after all as wanting it. It is not logical, but it is often true.

Beautiful silk. It's like what Cobb's T205 would have looked like had he been in the national league.

I think you did need that (where need is relative to however much any of us 'need' old cardboard).

Many moons ago(2001) I bought a mint condition T206 Lefty Leifield Pitching pose. I already had a vg one towards my set, and I am far from a condition sensitive person when coming to old cards, but this one was so nice I had to have it. I knew the seller personally, actually checked the card thoroughly for any alterations before he bought it ungraded, so I knew it was good. He paid a decent price for it and was going to sell it on ebay, but I couldn't let the card go to a stranger. So for the last 11 years, I've had a mint condition t206 Leifield, just hanging out with my other 99% vg/ex or lesser t206 set/extras

With the S74 Cobby snugly in my collection, I found this card (in link) on ebaY..
I always liked the pose but bought this for resale. Guess what?....again, going to my collection. Did I really need it? Nah, but what a cool card with his leather bag in hand!!

We might all Benefit from a 12 step section.

I don't really post about it, but I'm constantly buying cards for "resale". It hardly ever happens.
