Lajoie family reunion

All of my Lajoies were under one roof last night for a rare reunion, so I decided to take a group photo. Thought it was worth sharing. Also, this seems like a good place to thank all of you who have helped me over the years put together this assortment.

Rob - whenever I visit my grandmother in Daytona Beach, FL, I always visit the cemetary in which my granfather is buried. My grandmother always told me that a baseball player is buried nearby. So, a few years back, I had her show me the baseball player that is near my grandfather. Turned out to be Nap!

start with the word "azure"...
add an "L" before the accented first syllable, & replace the "re" with the word "way"...

is it "whu" as in (the way i say) what, or "wha" as in doo-wa-diddy?
i would think that the latter would be THE correct french or canandian pronunciation, which would also require accenting the final syllable, as well... (Lazjwah).
i'd assume that the americanized version (Lazjuwey) is such because of the way american language treats "ie" as a suffix

But as above stated the French Canadian pronunciation is Lazjwah with an emphasis on the wah.

Then ther are those who say its Lajoey with emphasis on the joey.

Me, I usually say Lazjwah. But thats just me.

I have his autograph on an Old-Timers Day program from the 1930s but not on any cards. I've never been an autograph guy but probably will pick up a signed HOF plaque one of these days. It's just never been a priority for me.

Thanks for the scan of the 1906 spring-training photo. I had not seen it.

Hands down, my favorite photo of Lajoie is one that pictures him in street clothes with his long-haired dachshund. One of my favorite players with my absolute favorite breed of dog. Tough to beat that.

As for the pronounciation, I've always gone with La-zhu-way, and when I hear most media types (I know, not the best litmus test, not by a long shot) and folks in Cleveland pronounce it, that's the way they say it.

Very impressive array of Lajoies. There was a "Show me your Lajoie" thread on the old board about six months ago (http://tinyurl.com/ocxqdl) in which I posted a YouTube link of a 1930 radio interview with Ty Cobb in which he expounded on the subjects of base stealing, keeping your eye on the ball and Lajaway. It's about a 90 second clip; you can hear The Man enunciate Lajoie easy pie about ten seconds from the end.

I owned some Lajoies back in the day, then sold them when I soured on cards. When I started to assemble this group a couple decades later, I think the first was the orange border. The most recent is near dead heat between the W600 and the Rose postcard.

I should add that these are all cards the picture him with Cleveland. I consider the Lajoie/Philadelphia combination to be a bit sacreligious and won't be adding any of them to the "family."

That's an E98 Anonymous "Set of 30" 1910 caramel card. It's from the same set as the three directly to the right of it, only with a different background (green, orange, red, blue).
