Default An illustration of my point...

Posted By: MVSNYC

a few weeks ago, i posted a thread about how this board has the power to influence the hobby. i suggested that everytime (or at least most of the time), when we mention a particular card or player, within the next few days, they seem to come out of the woood-works and onto eBay...i went on to say that if we spotlighted a particular card, that the prices generally start to escalate...

well, with all of the said, i wanted to just share a clear example of this with you...

for a few months now i have been bidding on any T206 Mike Powers PSA 5 that pops up on eBay. 3 times over the last 2 months, i set high bids and was outbid each time, everytime the price increasing signifigantly...i do think that all of our "150 series only" discussions have propelled this card in particular...

feb- $175
march- $225
april- $380

any thoughts?

Here's a thought, albeit self-serving.

For the next 6D 10H, Can we discuss the rarity of the 1933 Sanella 'Handbook of Sports'.

Steve- I think you've been subconsciously doing that for the last week- I saw your listing and in researching prices ended up picking up 2sets on ebay.

I think board discussions do drive sales, to a certain extent. Obviously it only takes one extra bidder to raise prices, and if a few are involved with sustained interest it's time to work on another set for a while.

I have noticed an increase in the number of Powers, Donlin, Reulbach, and horizontal poses on Ebay recently. Just by reading some of the auction descriptions you can tell someone has been lurking here

Steve, I thought you said you had previously sold that item in a private deal!
