Default Auction Styles..who do you like the most

Posted By: rand brotman

with all the different auction closing styles from ebay (sniper bids) to rea ect...which system as a BUYER do you like the most? personally i like ebay the best because of the low increments on the next highest bid, BUT i hate the sniper bidders. i also like scp/sothebys how they close the individual auction vs the entire auction.......

I prefer the way REA and Goodwin do it. The entire auction ends at the same time.

I am not fond of auctions where each lot closes individually, like in Mastro. In the last auction, I was bidding well into the extended period on two lots that I really wanted. Eventually, I was outbid on both. There were other lots that I wanted but those lots were already closed.

I like the system where the lots end individually but much prefer e-bay over any of the auction houses since you avoid the buyer's premium and you also have a definite time that the auction will end.

Why do you hate snipers?

i dont like snipers because it sucks when you think you are the highest bidder until 2 secs left, or if you are selling then you are at their mercy.

I like the one's who don't use the "whichever ends higher format".
Set -vs- Individual cards.
Oh wait, they all do that huh??

Tony

edited to say: Sorry Barry. Except your auctions of course.

ebay - if you don't want to get sniped at the end, then put in a higher max bid. whoever puts in the highest bid wins. doesn't matter if you put it in 10 minutes after the auction opens, or 10 seconds before the auction closes. highest bid wins, that simple.

It sounds like you are a fan of a sealed bids auction. Looks like auction houses don't like the format. It's probably because they think there's inadequate excitement and publicity.
