Default $92K for a 1971 Topps Super!!!????

I was going to attach this to the REA auction post, but figured it needed a thread of its own. I can't find the words:

https://memorylaneinc.com/site/bids/...e?itemid=66161

Ignoring that this very same card on any given day could be returned as an 8 or a 9, 8's can be had for $300-$400, 9's for $2k-$3K

This card just sold for $92K $92K

What am I missing!?

And it didn't even make the "record prices" post auction email sent by ML.

I am actively buying and selling vintage sports cards graded and raw. Feedback as a buyer: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=297262

I am accepting select private consignments of quality vintage cards (raw or graded) and collecting "want" lists for higher end ($1K+) vintage cards.

Fortunately the bidding on this one is already closed...otherwise the first born would have been in jeopardy of being sold and having new parents.

I see PSA 10s from the 1969 Super set all the time because the cards have natural round corners. I assume the same must be true for 1970 and 1971 Supers, no?

The later supers are very thick cards and didn't always die cut as well as they should have. So the corners are sometimes a bit odd, even for a rounded corner.

This "should" be a $10-15K card topps (imho) in today's market.

EXACTLY! Here is a newer graded 9 - that to my eye looks a heck of a lot better than the 10 - that was bought this month for $90K less!!

PSA 9 $1425

Not so - It is the "only graded 10", but as pointed out above - likely wouldn't be that if sent in today and as discussed ad nauseum on the boards - 3rd party grading is if nothing else inconsistent.

The irony of it is there are 274 PSA graded 1971 supers - the only 10 that sold, but 33 - 9's! Some really difficult Clemente stuff in the same auction sold way low (gratefully as I was able to grab a couple):

1967 Punchout PSA 4 - 3rd highest (nq) of 7 total graded - Under $4K
1962 Stamp Panel w/ Battey - 2nd highest of 24 total graded - ~$700

Wow! Just wow!
