Default Interesting "Pickles" Dillhoefer Obituary, February 23, 1922

About the only thing I knew about Pickles Dillhoefer was that he was on everyone's All Time Great Nickname Team. This obituary sheds a little light on his love of the game.

I don't have any of his cards, but I'd like to see some.

Pickles' only card can be found in the w514 set. He was a pretty good player from all accounts and he was likely going to be a star in the league for years had fate not intervened.

I do have an example of his autograph (on a check) that I can post if you have interest in that.

"Pickles" only card the w514, is difficult to find in even good condition. Christy Mathewson is the card adjacent to his in the strip card set, and most were cut with grapefruit spoons. Great, though tragic story.

Thanks for the Old Cardboard W514 link, Rhett. I'm sure I'm not the only one that would like to see the autograph. He probably didn't use "Pickles" on check, though.

That's a beauty, Tony. I wonder if anyone could have imagined those pulp cards would be around nearly a hundred years later. Much less slabbed as a 60 EX by a TPG!

"...cut with grapefruit spoons." That's hilarious and explains a lot! Thanks, Ty.

I used to have a bunch of his stuff from his widow. He died shortly after being married to her and she lived another 80 years or something and never remarried!
