Default Mother's Bread

I know these don't show up very often. I recently picked up a Tris Speaker and common Detroit player in presentable Gd to Vg condition. What are your thoughts on value?

With our without raisins? My mom's a good cook, but I hate it when she puts raisins in things.

I don't want to be sexist and start anothe melee, so I wish point out that my Dad's a good cook too, especially of fish. So, Doug, if you ever have questions about any Father's Fish cards you may pick up, feel free to contact me.

Doug,

Two (VG+) D303 Mother's Bread cards sold in the most recent Lipset auction (Lot#155) for $870.

Some are similar in size to the Brunners Bread cards and others are simlar in size to standard caramel or tobacco issues.

There are even strip cards with the Mothers Bread reverse.

What do the cards you purchased look like (size, colored photo, line drawing, etc.)?

The Mothers Bread series is most likely a D303 subset.....I am unaware of them being in the D304 set (which is a little bigger in size than the D303's)... I believe they were also made as strip cards with the backs saying Mothers Bread....Tim is correct on the costs for the last ones in the Lipset auction....I would think if they are strip cards and NOT the D303's they would be worth maybe $50-$75 for an HOF and $20-$30 for a common......and a D303 type would be as Tim said.....maybe $400 for a common and about $750 for a HOF...although the ones he mentioned were in a little better shape than yours sound like....good luck and best regards

In my opinion the "Mothers Bread" back D303's are rarer than the very similar Tango Egg cards. I only see 3-5 "Mothers" a year if that, with the last 2 being the Lipset Auction cards that went for good $$. The card pictured above I sold for $185 and it was a G/VG common player (Doyle NY). Id estimate the Speaker in G/VG would go for $300-$500, and a common in the $150-$250 range. If your interested in selling let me know. Good luck. Frank

I wish! I still kick myself for passing on a Mothers Mathewson on eBay a couple years back for $250 G/VG, just spent all my $$ on another card at the time, and just couldnt pull the trigger on the bid. I wrote seller after auction ended without a bid and offered him less $$, he passed then relisted it, and it went fast the second time. The seller had a ton of beat up Coupons, D303s, and Kottons along with that solo Mothers card. Frank
