Default Moe Berg card with an ad on back

Posted By: Alan

I was neither the buyer nor the seller of this Moe Berg card, but I wanted to find out more information from you experts on the board -- is it rare, scarce, common, valuable, etc,...

Thanks very much.
Alan

I missed that one. That was a steal. The 1939 Play Ball cards for the first series were offered as salesman's samples with the back overprint to potential stores that might stock the product. The cards are much more difficult to find. They carry a slight premium over the regular (non-overprinted) cards.

Yes, that was quite a steal. I have the same card with "sample" overprint in much nicer condition but I paid much, much more. I have seen quite a few of these backs--I don't think they are too rare.

You'd be hard pressed to get the Berg card in that shape for the price without the ad. That was a great. I would have been all over it if I had moeny to spend as I have been scooping up 39PBs and still need Berg.

Growing old is not optional, growing up is.

He does state the the card was trimmed. That probably backed many off the purchase.
